Plagued Consoomers / Consoomer Culture - Because if it has a recogniseable brand on it, I’d buy it!

You know, with the rise of 3D printing, I'm surprised at the lack of people printing their own legos, just the plastic required for it must cost way less than the average lego kit
I know lego has a patent on the block and ya can't exactly go around advertising lego piracy, but you'd think there would be SOME community for it
3d printers are pretty expensive and there are other brands in the market offering the exact same thing as legos but much cheaper.

Lego patents expired long ago so anyone can sell them. They survive on brand name alone.

I assure you anyone who owns a 3D printer already does it for other purposes, and the kinda people who collect enough legos for it to start making an impact in terms of cumulative price are the types of individuals who probably already own 3D printers for other purposes anyway

...
then again the type of people who collect lego to such a degree are probably way too brand loyal to do something like that, now that i think about it

I'd be like printing your own magic cards to play with, is gonna cause a meltdown even though the card you printed is functionally the same as one you bought on ebay. You could argue that your deck building strategy is all that matters but is not gonna stick.

For normal people buying legos for their kids they have been loosing a lot of the market though, that company had a period when they were doing really badly, its why they have to spend so much on marketing and licensing deals and the end depend more and more on retarded manchildren. Toddlers just like their plastic bricks, they will grow up and not even remember if their Legos were actually from Lego.

I listened to the Stellar Blade video, and his "debunk" of the claims the game was censored is ...nothing. He never addresses the censorship. He complains that they didn't hire enough consultation because otherwise Hard R Shop and Crime R Shop wouldn't have made it into the game.

I don't know if this is the right place, but last night there was a microsoft showcase where they showed off a new Perfect Dark game that isn't Perfect Dark, and the new Fable game that was beaten with the DEI ugly stick. Expecting to see people roast these games for being dogshit, what I found was a bunch of corporate shills.
you see guys the age of the influencer will totally do away with all of the stupid rating websites I guarantee you these people paid a stipend from these major corporations every single month to say these games are great it was like the fallout TV show that was the most astroturf thing on the face of the planet

That's what I'd worry about – the plastic is usually quite brittle – but it might work OK for current-year Lego builds that are put together once and for all, and never taken apart.
What about the tolerances? Before Lego survived on branding and 3rd party IPs, one of the biggest things keeping them superior was the ultra-tight tolerances the parts were made with, compared to cheaper brands with sticky parts that didn't quite fit.

That's exactly what I'm saying – a lot of Lego seems to have evolved from "freeform construction toy for children" to "easy model kit for adults". 3D printed Lego-type bricks would be TERRIBLE for the former, but for the latter, the tolerances aren't so important because either a stroke from a file or a dab of glue will get the pieces holding together adequately.

Lego autist reporting: you can't 3d print Lego bricks and rely on them because 3d printing isn't perfect. There's some work involved post print like sanding and touch ups. Plus, 3d printers make a lot of mistakes and youd have to keep a close watch so you don't waste your sweet sweet fillament and hours of your time.
It is likely that the pieces wouldn't fit together properly because you'd have to sand them individually and they need to be exactly the same to fit together and stay together.
-Why not just glue it together?
Glue will literally melt the plastic.
There are a lot of cheap chiner brands of Lego out there that make replica sets of licenced Lego ones, or even "MOC" (my own creation) sets that let you build things beyond the scope of what you can get from Lego. Those bricks aren't perfect either. Sometimes they'll be hard to fit together or you'll find more defective (melted edges) bricks than you probably would in a Lego set as there is way more quality control in Legoland.
-Whats the better value?
It's personal preference really. If you want a quality build that isn't going to hurt your fingers or be a pain in the ass, you're guaranteed to have a smooth build with Lego. With alternative brick sellers, it's really a crapshoot. Some brands are consistently good with their quality while others are just pumped out too quickly. It's worth trying your hand at building a smaller set if you want to test the brands quality and I would definetly reccomend the experience.

It's fascinating that people in this thread spend 99% of the posts shitting on garbage Chinese shit but still have time to shit on one of the very few toy companies in the world that still produces quality products in Europe.
They deserve it, their stuff may be miles better than chink sweatshop shit, but that's a low bar to set, and it doesn't mean they get to slither away scot free with their ridiculous prices, advertising tactics and business practices

We can't took away the quality of their products, but holy shit (mini PL ) I wanted to offer some small Lego set to one friend's son for his birthday: 20 euros for ONE lego car is absurd.

Maybe I'm biased but I have the impression that the gap between quality and mediocrity is not only growing, but brands that sell quality products have indecently increased their prices in recent years. I know inflation yada yada but when I see hiking shoes for 200 when I had paid mines 50 at the time, and they still hold up when well maintained after 10 years, I can't stop but wondering what the fuck happened.

The saddest part is we can't even count on thrifting anymore since it became kind of mainstream now.

I had seen a guy buy one set copying, er, some starship (not Star wars), and some parts were custom huge chunks instead of tiny interconnecting bits that had various material in the original model.

If you have siblings, pray they don't have boys.
They all seemingly go through the Lego stage and the prices are insane.

I don't actually mind Lego as a gift, it's creative and incredibly durable. However, at the end of the day, it's still just fucking plastic and the prices for Marvel/Star Wars/latest thing is retarded.
All too frequently when I've gone to a toy store to buy some super specific thing as a gift, there are adult males there sperging about collectibles. So they hoard things for children, and drive up the price points online/during resell.

I hate adult consoomers so much.

It's been addressed by others already but another reason is 3D printing takes a long ass time. For reference (not from personal experience), printing a Warhammer-like model at a small scale can take 8 hours or more. Photoresin is also brittle and leaves leaves behind layer lines which need to be cleaned up. ABS plastic (the same shit Lego is made of) printing is possible but I have no clue if you can print a convincing Lego clone from that.
