History as an academic subject, which saddens me.
It's ridiculous how they assign modern labels to historic figures.
If seeing half-assed academic papers claiming that Jean D'Arc was actually a trans man is infuriating the fact that the British Museum now labels the roman Emperor Heliogabalus as a trans woman makes me sick (clearly whoever was behind that decision doesn't understand how ancient historiography works at all). There's other examples like saying that the Female Pharaoh Hatchepsut was actually a trans man, honestly trannies try to claim almost every powerful woman in history as part of their community.​

Trannies love to steal the achievements of women and claim them as their own. Wasn't the whole Heliogabalus thing more to do with accounts of people who didn't like him than anything else? He was kind of a jerk so I can imagine how some historians might have painted him as a sexual deviant who was desperate for a physician to cut a vagina into his body and enjoyed prostituting himself to men. Jean D'Arc being labelled as a trans man is so incredibly offensive as somebody I admire heavily as a fellow woman for her strength, purity and faith. It's not even something that happened in ancient times, it wasn't that long ago that these events happened and we have first hand accounts of people who met her, people who dressed her wounds and saw her body, she was a woman by every single first-hand description.


It's deletion of history and culture. Much in the same way that Mao rallied the impressionable youth during the cultural revolution to burn books, reject their own history as Chinese people and replace all history and culture with revolutionary ideas it's happening now. Just look at accounts of how Mao and his party changed Chinese art and theater, long standing traditions to be about revolutionary ideas and their version of history and compare it to the way it's being altered to fit an agenda now.

Exactly, in Ancient Rome historiography wasn't impartial nor 100% truthful. In fact when an impopular emperor died most of the texts written about him would exagerate his bad qualities. Heliogabalus was hated and as such what we know of him is tainted by accusations of depravity. People usually see romans as a somewhat progressive society where orgies, homossexuality and sexual escapades were encouraged, well that isn't true. Romans valued the virtus and mos maiorum so when someone is said to have homossexual relationships in ancient roman texts it's not a positive thing.
Tha being said we have no way of knowing if the prostitution and trans stories are real or simply a fabrication of roman historians, but it's widely accepted that it's probably a fabrication. Heliogabalus was a 14 year old boy when he became emperor and was murdered when he was 18, the statues we have of him show facial hair, I doubt that if he wanted to be a woman so bad he would want to be imortalized with a mustache:

He didn't claim to be Apollo but he was since a young age a priest of the god Heliogabalus a god worshiped in the region of today's Syria. It was common for the priests of this god to adopt the name Heliogabalus so it isn't necessarily a demonstration of his power as emperor. Anyways, of course the romans disliked the fact this teen emperor decided to worship and be known as a deity from the east that didn't even have a cult in Rome. Historically (at least until the IV d.C.) romans usually reacted badly when their leader adopted behaviours and costumes from the east of the empire (for example Nero and Caligula were critized for being too greek), Heliogabalus being from Syria and bringing it's culture to Rome certainly played into his unpopularity.
It's likely that we'll never draw the line beetween the real Heliogabalus and the Heliogabalus described by ancient sources, still the trans label doesn't make any sense when there's so much doubt.
Also if he believed to be a woman wouldn't he choose to be called something else besides the name of a male god?

Anyone from the UK can tell me if the North Hertfordshire Museum is a reputable museum or is it one of those museums trying to be different and attract younger people?

I was listening to a stoner/doom playlist not long ago, and a band called Snakemother came on, and were pretty enjoyable. So I go to look them up, an all female doom band, it said.
