Climate change carries important effects on human wellbeing and performance, and increasingly research is documenting the negative impacts of out-of-comfort temperatures on workplace performance. In this study, we investigate the plausibly causal effect of extreme temperatures, i.e., out-of-comfort, on language complexity among politicians, leveraging a fixed effects strategy. We analyze language complexity in over seven million parliamentary speeches across eight countries, connecting them with precise daily meteorological information. We find hot days reduce politicians’ language complexity, but not cold days. Focusing on one country, we explore marginal effects by age and gender, suggesting high temperatures significantly impact older politicians at lower thresholds. The findings propose that political rhetoric is not only driven by political circumstances and strategic concerns but also by physiological responses to external environmental factors. Overall, the study holds important implications on how climate change could affect human cognitive performance and the quality of political discourse.

I don't see it going over well. The majority of the Democrats legitimate voter base is people who have bought into what the media has told them, and that includes that Biden is doing well. Swapping him out this late would be tactic admission that he is in fact not doing well, and that would likely shock those voters as they wouldn't understand the switch and start asking questions.

It would be no difference for the dead voters and the illegal voters. The illiterate voters may not change their stance much either.

He's as bad as Obama was in terms of seizing control of the party and destroying its talent development.

His people working on behalf of Biden are at least competent even if their goals are detestable--Ukraine ended up being a massive win for the US. We depleted stockpiles of weapons we weren't using or gonna use, convinced industrial planners to rearm, gotten Europe to pay through the nose for our LNG, the dollar hasn't collapsed in value, the ruble, euro, and pound have. Nato has expanded to new, rich countries desperate to recast their collaboration with Hitler as resistance against Stalin (lol finland). Who cares how much debt we run up when our creditors are desperate for us to protect them at any cost at all? Borrowing is reckless when you don't have a gun to the head of the guy with a gun to your creditors. Meanwhile Russia has lost tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of men, there's no way they're interested in another war, and isolated our only military rival.

He's got rabid fans and a following--but they're not inheritable, and there is no force in the party that even matters outside of him. The USD is about as dominant as ever, there are really no alternatives, China's financial system is not mature enough, its capital markets and legal systems are hopelessly backward, and the people uniting against the United States are poor, retarded, and weak and have a fraction of our industrial potential and wealth. China's the leader of a gang of beggars. Good job with your share of global GDP, by combining a bunch of poor dysfunctional countries with untested (Brazil, China, India,) or underperforming (Russia) or on the brink of state collapse (South Africa) militaries.
