A Canadian news broadcaster and content creator has spent six days showing New York her sights this month in a bid to liberate women.
Self-proclaimed exhibitionist Eila Adams, 36, has explained how flashing her boobs and ‘nether regions’ to the public of New York has been her nod to gender equality. She said: "If men can walk around shirtless without fear of reprisal, so too should women. It’s normal to be nude, and by flashing folks as I go about my day, I’m just having a bit of cheeky fun and challenging the status quo.
"Nudity has been such an important part of my life. I do not understand anyone who has negative feelings towards being naked. We're all born this way, and we have to embrace our own bodies, and we have to love everyone else's amazing bodies."
Generally, Eila was received positively during her tour this month, although there have been some embarrassing moments. She explained: "I was flashing on an elevator and I man walked in while I had my leg up on the wall.
"He was shocked and I was embarrassed the rest of the ride down. I have had some negative comments but I don’t let the haters get me down. If you don’t like it, don’t look.
"Most people don’t even notice I’m doing anything, but if I do get caught I’ll get a smile, a thumbs up, a laugh. Tits can light up a person’s day."
Eila, from Toronto, tries to be respectful in the locations she chooses; she won’t flash at cenotaphs or spots of national importance, like the 9/11 memorial. And she has one rule; don’t get caught.
Eila added: "For over 30 years, it has been legal for women to go topless in New York City, which many women have embraced as a show of gender equality. I think flashing is entertaining.
"But it’s also a way of normalising toplessness. I think women should have the same rights as men to go topless in public if they choose to. For me, it’s a way of life."
Eila, who also works as a Naked News anchor and glamour model, recently participated in Toronto’s World Naked Bike Ride to highlight the overuse of oil and urban pollution while endorsing cycling safety on our streets.
She said: "There’s something incredibly liberating about cruising through the city on a bike, feeling the wind against my skin, and making great memories as we all pedalled through the heart of this incredible city. This was an incredible and fun experience, and I strongly advise anyone and everyone to bike naked at least once in their lives."
