I love this picture in particular.
Looking in the camera is like "making eye contact" with the audience. It's a direct acknowledgement.
You can't look into a camera and also see how you look. To do that you'd have to look at a preview next to, above, or below that actual lens of the camera.
So she's looking not at the audience through the camera, but at herself.
Now that is a very "insecure" act. It's checking to make sure you look "right" for most people who see themselves on a live monitor. "is my hair ok, skin, got nothing in my teeth, no stains on my shirt, etc".
What is she looking to see? What is she thinking should be seen?
What thoughts race through the mind of someone stuffing their face like that on camera?
Because genuinely, the only times I have eaten with this kind of gusto are times when i've been having the munchies on an empty stomach, coming off of some kind of physical exertion.
Do people actually enjoy watching Chantal fill her entire mouth every time its empty while there is food in front of her? Does she? The food goes away faster, and instead of being savored for its qualities its just jammed down the chute.
I don't like watching people eat, and I don't want to be the guy at the table who is sloppy and gets food everywhere. I really want to know what the hell Chantal is thinking when she does this.
Why does she watch herself in the viewfinder doing these things?
