He is pushing 80, is fucking wealthy, and certainly doesn’t give a shit if popular media mocks him mercilessly.

A good portion of his books which became films also are self parodies.

I can’t see what he has to fear from Gen Z and millennial men in dresses armed with Twitter accounts.

He really is a holdout from a generation that included Hunter Thompson, Oliver Reed, fucking Nixon, Oliver North, Tim Curry, Quentin Crisp, Sean Connery the aforementioned Woody Allen and a hell of a lot of other white wealthy and powerful men who publicly did shameful shit, but essentially got away with it cause they didn’t especially care what the public reaction was, or used their influence and fuck you money to fuck it off.

I know that post MeToo they think that wealthy white men can now be brought down, but you have to have some serious shit that sticks.

Maybe woody Allen isn’t making films about being a loveable neurotic New York Jewish guy anymore, but it’s not like he is in jail or in poverty.

The richard bachman experiment was to get the critics to unknowingly praise him (which some did) and he talks about that in On Writing. He really hates that he's rich but never cool whereas JKR was rich and popular for her intended audience and then some. Everyone got in on it. We've all been soaking in it for so long that we've forgotten how crazy it is that fucking Harvard has a quidditch team. Stephen King has nothing on the HP extended universe. He wishes he could be her.

If you read On Writing, there's two things that come up a few times: him hating how his writing teacher / classmates couldn't write anything that wasn't deliberately allegorical of current politics, rather than just telling a good story, and him feeling that his generation wasted their chance at real political change and that eventually new young people won't make the same mistake. (JKR has deliberate political allegories in her books but also a good story). Which is why when all the young people started yelling at him he assumed he must be wrong, but also why I did expect him to turn back eventually.

TERF is now set to be REMOVED from its venue.
