In twitch's defence, it's at least plausible that they'd monitor what goes on on their platform between their contracted streamers and other users. Maybe not word for word, even if it's just filtering for known key words that'll throw up alarm bells.
Is it shitty? Debatable. If I was handing out contracts for thousands a month (up to millions even) to people who'd be representing your (child/teenager focused) brand then no, I don't think it's shitty. To be honest, I don't even think it's unethical - it's their platform.
Their biggest mistake was not having a better clause to both insure them against this happening, and allow them to sue in return. Breaking the contract and paying up, while also protecting him by not saying anything is so amazingly pathetic.

It'd make you think though: if twitch does monitor chats why is doc the only person that got shitcanned? He can't be the only person that's done this.

I think someone dating someone immediately after turning 18 is still weird, you are odd, especially with that much of an age difference. I have a little sister who's 13, and I know her friends, I wouldn't date them even when they turn 18, because I know them as kids, and will only see them in that light. I do not think someone who is 15-20+ years older, who knows someone since they're a child, would have the best intentions in mind. I'm not against age differences entirely either (well, I am a little bit, but not nearly as much as what I'm speaking of), I would think it's very odd if my dad's friends were attracted to me and asked me out when I turned 18. I only used the waiting until legality because at least, in the public's eyes, you wouldn't be a known pedophile/sex offender. They probably don't monitor it, but they also can't willfully destroy records of it either, so the girl or her parents probably reported it and Twitch admins had to go and look at it, which led to everything. I wouldn't say it was common, but I also wouldn't say it was rare. The authors of English Population History from Family Reconstitution, 1530-1837 give the average ages at this time as about 25 years for men and 23.5 years for women. I think for those who were plutocratic/had more wealth actually married earlier, while the normal classes married at a normal age, usually in the same age range. I do believe those who were more wealthy, had a different disparity in age, so I don't really understand why those people use the defense of choosing young partners historically. I do not think history should be applied to modern ethics when it comes to this, as we have made many advancements. Most of these people who say such arguments usually use it favor for their own desires, I would just prefer them to be honest about their own desires.

I just remember reading in Roman history how doctors would encourage it at the time for the aforementioned reason. Whether or not it was actually good reasoning it was something that society at the time seemingly believed was a necessary evil. You're confusing two different things. Life expectancy and life spans. Life expectancy was only ever low because of the insane amounts of infant deaths 100+ years ago. But if you made it out of infancy you generally lived pretty close to the same age as you do today. In fact, life span is actually going down worldwide.
