UK British News Megathread - aka CWCissey's news thread

https://news.sky.com/story/row-over-new-greggs-vegan-sausage-rolls-heats-up-11597679

A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

He’s always been a “Putin stronk” tard and has a 19th century “spheres of influence” view that comes straight from RT.

That superpowers exert intense influence and pressure on their neighbours strikes me as a given, originally its was those close but since the Industrial Revolution that is now global. ‘The strong do what they can and the weak suffer what they must.’ and all that. And if RT says something does that automatically make it untrue? If they say that water is wet does that cease to be true? A wise man once told me: “Consider the information and the source separately.”
On Putin himself, Russia has always been run by an autocrat of some stripe and by their nature those autocrats must be strong. To point that out is not an endorsement.

It borders on treason. Any “NATO bad” fag should me mincrafted in Minecraft.

NATO bad? No. But I would say that NATO lacks a realistic attitude toward the world. It, in its policy and outlook, seems frozen in those couple of years after the collapse of the Soviet Union. NATO is an important institution for us (Britain, the collective West or however you want to slice it) but it serves us poorly.

How does it border on treason to think NATO is a mistake? They constantly drag us into wars and conflicts we should have nothing to do with. They will blackmail members into giving money to lost causes or other countries we have nothing to do with.

Only the neo con boomer thinks NATO is a good thing for us when we've spent the last 25 years bombing sand niggers into the dust and some how losing every one of those fights. Maybe instead of supporting NATO's warmongering we spend that money on fixing our own problems? Maybe something like.. border control? Seems fucking stupid to be part of any military and political pact that doesn't protect your borders when it's purpose is to protect people's borders and prevent it's members from being invaded.

If Labour really wanted to win in Clacton, they should have gotten an old East End geezer to represent little Dagenham.
If said fantasy candidate met Farage and dropped him with a single headbutt it would be a secured seat until said geezer died doing the same to a statue. For the third time.

Btw there's an e coli outbreak.
And do you wanna know where E.Coli comes from?

Feces. No - not manure - literal, uncomposted feces. :stress:

A brief update. Friend is back at home and I've got a lot on my mind. I just can't get the bleary, weak expressions of the others in the A&E ward out of my head. It makes me genuinely angry now whenever I see Sunak talking about how important the NHS is.

Could we be getting a Wizarding World UK, Bongbros?
Maybe I could finally achieve my 11-year old self's dream of finally getting a wand. Loved Ollivander's shop as a kid and was royally pissed when I discovered Universal was in America.

Labour candidate for clacton "reassigned to West Midlands"
"It comes after the Labour candidate for the seat, Jovan Owusu-Nepaul, went viral on social media, being dubbed “the best dressed candidate in living memory”.

Seriously? I do an image search and he's dressed like a poundland Doctor Who, in a shitty waistcoat or jumper and flasher mac. The only reason I'd heard of this guy is because he's anti-white, maybe they figured Mr. Ooga-Booga would do better in a neighbourhood full of africans and muslims.

Wasn’t this guy pretty toxic to normies too? He was one of the rich ethnics who has never had struggles in his life but cried about white people all the time because some boomer gave him a funny look once?

I don't understand how the country can be short on money. If you're in debt for 2,500 billion how do you keep track of it any more? It's all funny money at that point so what's the difference between 3,500 and 4,500 or 5,500? It's abstract bullshit no one is ever going to collect on or has any way to really keep track of. Half the banks supposedly owed money are collapsing any way and will print more fake money to keep this constant spiral going.

Sorry I know this is a few days late but years ago a guy I knew told me a conspiracy theory about the real reason China wanted Hong-Kong was to have direct control of some of the banks based out of there most notably for HSBC as they are a mega national bank that legally can print its own money that is accepted fairly commanly as a currency you can convert from an too, and access to networks they have deep deep roots in.

This time the Conservatives are so lost they’ve deployed him to burn the party to the ground so they can rebuild it from the ashes.

Honestly I don't think they will have enough to work with for a long time they have lost a very large very embarrising number of their core supporters and are about to see both sides of a land slide in a single parliament that started as a bad joke about the state of the current labour party they are going the way of the dodo.

They took the North, after Thatcher they took the fucking north of the UK, it's going so fucking bad they are likely going to take such a pasting in the home counties they might lose counties they have held with no effective opposition since the founding of there political party.

They use treated sewage fairly commonly as agri fertiliser it wouldn't shock me to find out some bacteria wasn't killed and it's entered the food chain with a nice helping of chemicals that are having wild reactions biochemically speaking.

I don't know if this has been discussed, but when the ULEZ area gets expanded in London, all vehicles that will no longer be allowed to drive around London, will be sent to the Ukraine as aid.

Farage is the Tory Pitbull. He's Tory through and through and half the Tory party hate what the party has become. That civil war has been coming since 2019. Now they're acting on it. They'll decimate the party, allow Labour to ruin the country and the Tories will return stronger.

If Reform were to win I don't think they would know what to do with themselves. Farage is good at picking fights from the sidelines, but I don't think he has ever expected to be prime minister. It would be funny if it happened though. The rise in temperature at the Guardian offices would be a welcome source of renewable energy.

South Park's "fuck 'em all to death" acceptance speech would be infinitely more applicable to Farage than it was Trump. I suspect he'd actually cry if elected.

There was a banger of an outbreak in Germany about... 15 years ago?

The German government did their thing of tracing the outbreak and all that, and they reported that the most likely cause of the outbreak was migrant seasonal workers, hired to pick crops, refusing to use the toilet facilities on site because they were paid by weight-picked, and stopping to walk to the toilets and back cost them money.

The overwhelming majority of UK fruit and vegetable produce is picked by migrant seasonal workers. You'll remember the government had to give them a special exemption from, er, any form of immigration control in 2017 and onwards, because otherwise the UK's crops were going to literally rot in the fields. Pre-Brexit, the farmers just gave six to twelve weeks' work to the gypsies, I mean the Romanians and Bulgarians, but now they need a special class exemption to bring over thousands of unskilled peasant workers every spring, summer and autumn, to sleep ten to a room.

Anyway, I digress. The UK has a different solution to the problem of toileting its vast migrant agricultural workforce.

The farmers aren't legally required to provide any toilet facilities, so... they don't. Or handwashing facilities. The pickers just drop trou and shit directly amidst the produce, and then keep right on picking with their shit-covered hands. This is the normal state of production and packing of our native produce. Covered in smears of gypsy shit.

It's actually testament to the amount of irradiation, I mean 'cold pasteurisation' that UK produce goes through that big e.coli outbreaks aren't more common. Mild 'food poisoning' is usually put down to dodgy meat by the public, but the major vector for it is fruit and vegetables.

This is why I eat mostly chips.

Warning: This story contains language that may offend
Homophobic and racist comments apparently made by Reform UK members have been recorded by an undercover Channel 4 journalist while they campaigned for Nigel Farage to become Clacton's MP.
Reform UK said those making "unacceptable comments" will no longer be part of Mr Farage's campaign.
The secret recordings feature a conversation between individuals identified in the programme as Rob Bates, a senior Reform UK campaigner, and two other men linked to the party.
One man linked to the party appears to make homophobic comments, describing a Pride flag on a police car as a "degenerate flag".
"What are the old bill doing promoting that crap?" he asks the group.
He repeatedly suggests members of the LGBT+ community are paedophiles and criticises police attending Pride.
He adds that, should Reform UK form a future government, “our police officers will be paramilitaries, they won’t be police” and should “bring back the noose”.
BBC News has been unable to to verify this man's identity and is attempting to contact him.
During the conversation Mr Bates says Reform UK has "spent double" the legal spending limit during its campaign to get Mr Farage elected.
Mr Bates later told Channel 4 News that his comment was a joke and clarified that he is not responsible for campaign spending.
Reform UK told the programme that campaign spending is “well within the legal spending limits”.
Footage broadcast by Channel 4 shows further racist, homophobic and Islamophobic slurs apparently being made by Andrew Parker, identified as a canvasser for Mr Farage, who used a racial slur to refer to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, who is of Indian descent.
Mr Parker is also heard describing Islam as "the most disgusting cult out" and suggesting army recruits should carry out “target practice” by shooting at small boats bringing illegal migrants to the UK.
At one point Mr Parker tells voters Reform would be "kicking all the Muslims out of the mosques and turning them into Wetherspoons".
During campaigning, he advisers the undercover reporter to use the term "illegal" when discussing immigration, especially when addressing non-white households.
Ahead of the publication of the footage, Mr Parker made a statement to Channel 4 claiming "neither Nigel Farage personally or the Reform Party are aware of my personal views on immigration".
Mr Parker said: “I have never discussed immigration with either Nigel Farage or the Reform Party and that any comments made by me during those recordings are my own personal views on any subject I commented on.
“I would therefore like to apologise profusely to Nigel Farage and the Reform Party if my personal views have reflected badly on them and brought them into disrepute as this was not my intention."
Speaking at a Reform UK event in Boston, Lincolnshire, party leader Nigel Farage said the party was not "perfect".
"We've had one or two candidates that have said things they shouldn't have said," he said. "In most cases they're just speaking like ordinary folk.
"They're not part of the mainstream political Oxbridge speak, we understand that. In some cases one or two people let us down and we let them go.
"Well, compare that to the international price fixing and betting ring that is the modern day Conservative Party."
Alongside him Hubberts Bridge Community Centre, chairman of the party Richard Tice said the racist comments were "inappropriate".
He said: "We put a statement out and it's all self-explanatory in the statement.
"The reality is that we're a fast-growing movement, and when you've got unpaid volunteers, some people behave inappropriately. And they're gone."
Peter Harris, Reform UK's Campaign Manager in Clacton, said he was "appalled by these reported comments".
"All parties in such a short campaign are having to deal with the challenges of working with many activists they may not have met before," Mr Harris added.
"Any individuals who have been identified as making unacceptable comments and holding those views are not welcome in our campaign. We are running a campaign to represent all voters in Clacton."
I'm not sure this propaganda piece news article will have the intended consequences the BBC think it will.

But that won't stop us publishing a hit piece that refers to him as a Reform UK Member. We don't know who he is but we know that, he showed his ID and everything.

It's the same thing as Trump BBC. There is plenty to attack him with, when you do so through blatant made up shit you make me support him out of anger and spite out of the attempt to manipulate me.
