Democrats are despairing over President Joe Biden’s debate performance Thursday night, a showing so halting some even privately raised questions about whether he should remain the party’s nominee.

Biden appeared onstage with a soft, halting voice and an open-mouthed, staring look. He struggled to finish thoughts at points, and ceded ground on issues like abortion where Democrats have an edge.

It took just minutes for Democrats to realize how bad it was becoming.

“Biden looks and sounds terrible. He’s incoherent,” one Democrat who spent time working in the Biden administration said.

“Horrific,” said another Democratic operative.

And one Democrat who’s worked on campaigns up and down the ballot said simply: “We are f***ed.”

The looming question as the debate came to a close was almost existential: Should someone else top the Democratic ticket?

“It’s hard to argue that Biden should be our nominee,” said an operative who’s worked on campaigns at all levels for over a decade.

This debate was historic for many reasons, but not least because it is taking place before each man is formally nominated at their respective conventions. The Democratic National Convention is set to convene August 19 in Chicago.

Democrats have spent much of the past year handwringing about Biden’s chances of beating Trump in an election many view as an existential one that will decide the very survival of American democracy. But Biden himself was determined to be the one to take on Trump, at one point even saying directly: “If Trump wasn’t running, I’m not sure I’d be running.”

No serious Democratic challengers stepped up to run against Biden, and at this point in the campaign he’d have to decide to step aside if Democrats were to pick another nominee. If Biden did withdraw, the Democratic nomination would be decided on the floor.

Democrats were even talking about who it might be instead: “If I was Gavin (Newsom) or Gretchen (Whitmer), I’d be making calls tonight,” one said.

This was Nixon vs Kennedy 2: Electric Boogaloo.
Not anywhere near. The Nixon debate, everyone who was there live or who listened to it on the radio said Nixon won, whereas everyone who watched on TV said Kennedy won (Kennedy had natural charisma and magnetism, Nixon was ill and sweating like a motherfucker)

This debate? Only the most disingenuous of fucktard would try to claim Biden 'won' this debate

This whole thing looks like people in the Dems' party being sick of the Biden administration running the white house via their puppet president (Because Biden himself can't do shit except sign what they tell him).

They were seeing that he was going to fuck up this debate, and taking the opportunity to make moves and plays.

The absolute universal shock and tears over this is hilarious. From the CNN analysts to the people who are usually bright-eyed bushy-tailed happy little party-line voters that I know.

Every single one is freaking out. They just saw their Potemkin village facade crash. For years they've been tut-tutting one another into "trusting the experts" and not believing their lyin' eyes and they got ninety minutes of cold, hard reality staring out, slack-jawed and dead in the eyes.

Of course everyone will just deny that they've been lying about Biden not being demented and it's all fake news.

People said before the debate that the reason it was so early was that if Biden can't perform they can hopefully get him out. That may happen now, but I fully expect over the next few days everyone having a pitty party for Biden being demented will just start lying that he's great and Trump is Hitler. They're just too used to lying.

This was Nixon vs Kennedy 2: Electric Boogaloo. Holy shit. Biden is worse than I remember.
The wrong side won that debate. I don't care how sweaty Nixon looked, he had his head right and Kennedy was extremely out of his depth as president.
Tricky Dick got his revenge eventually but it took a fucking decade for him to do it and LBJ fucked everything up in the interim.

Jumping ship from the incumbent at this stage in the game would just be admitting defeat. I don't see that realistically happening.

I think the biggest problem with the whole "president is senile, idklolwtf" thing is the foreign policy aspect. The deep state or Obama or whoever or whatever it is that's actually pulling the strings in D.C. can keep running things domestically for however long, no problem. They kinda need to save face in the international community though. Putting an obviously senile old geezer into foreign talks and asking everyone to just pretend that he's mentally competent is a stretch.

Would you be able to last almost 4 years under Kamala?
Kamala as president would be hilarious. The same incompetent retards would be running things but unlike old Joe where it feels like elder abuse to keep trotting him out in front of a camera, Kamala would be a nonstop cavalcade of cringe focus group-tested talking points that she delivers with all the charisma of a wet paper towel.

She's like the president on a CW show.
