My best guess-theory is that they are so narcissistic that they never can make a relationship work and struggle with friendship because of their incapacity to deal with the everyday compromise of other people.

Some, sure. There’s a difference between narcissism and old fashioned selfishness though.

There are plenty who have had relationships that seemed pretty normal to their wives, until their husbands blindsided them by declaring that they were women all along and the wives are now lesbians. The husbands usually want the marriages to continue, and seem baffled they can’t convince their wives that they’re still the same person these women married. Check out any trans widow space and you’ll see the same. Of my personal cows, my lost love, Super Hon Megan, had been married for over 20 years, and Hon Lisa for 27. Even the men who troon out early in their marriages after baby trapping their wives are usually married to women who thought the marriage was OK.

So they don’t sound like narcissists who can’t make a relationship work. They sound like men who are chasing the coom and the illusion of freedom from the burden of being themselves. I think of it as similar to having an affair or midlife crisis.
