Mega Rad Gun Thread

Josh just needs a Dirty Harry 44 magnum for his CCW.

A little story about the Barret. When I was younger, my best buddies brother had gotten a civvy, one shot bolt Barret.
One winter afternoon, with about 4 feet of snow on the ground, we decided to lay out some 2 inch thick steel plates. He had tracers, about 10 of em.
So we each shot the Barret with the tracers. Punched straight through the plate, yes. Even a small bit of fire for a few seconds on it.
However, the sound that came through those pro level earpro still almost deafened me. And though the ground was covered with 4 feet of snow, the second I shot I was somehow surrounded by an impenetrable wall of dust. I call every 50 cal "Dustmakers" now because the force of shooting it somehow pulled dust from under the snow and off the snow covered trees.
Josh will not enjoy shooting this for defense. And most definitely will not enjoy shooting it inside. A piddly .22 in an enclosed room is enough to feel your eardrums bounce.
I fully support him buying one for fun because barrets are fucking dope.
But he also needs a battle rifle. Just a bog standard fighting gun. Get a Scar or a big fat commie caliber gun if you want armor punch, but for God's sake, just at least get a regular ass rifle.
You're too important to get got because you took one shot with a barrett and couldn't hear anyone running up on you.

sarco has a really good price on an IFAK medical kit. the pouch may or may not be surplus, the gear inside is brand new, unissued.

for that, it's worth keeping a couple around (one in a vehicle, one in a go bag, one in the house, one on your vest, et c).

your local fire department usually has a list of places to get first aid training and you can also usually find first aid severe trauma (known as FAST) classes too.
And most definitely will not enjoy shooting it inside.
shooting a .50 BMG in a parking garage in an active warzone with shitty surefire ear plug things (the OD ones with the little hole, those that know, know) blew out eardrums and literally permanently deafened a guy. an M82 in a typical suburban house will be significantly worse. Josh getting into meme weapons for self defense is signings his own death warrant because it'll be completely ineffective and put him out of the fight with gear and weapons he doesn't know how to use, with expensive training costs or annoying training regimens (where is he going to practice his M82 MOUT skills?) and he'll end up both dead or arming a local gangbanger after his house gets broken into.

i really hope he's just meming and will just spend the cash on a 7.62mm / .308 semi-auto (or fucking transferable idgaf), and buy/make some AP. if i had little complaint about using that against actual enemy soldiers that are shooting back at me and wearing armor and using mud brick walls and cement walls as cover then i'm pretty sure it's borderline overkill for whatever he's scared of. he's not on a cartel hit list ffs.

There used to be a little trick Soviet and Finn snipers used for shooting in snow to avoid raising a cloud. It has to be below freezing. You sprinkle water all over the snow where your muzzle will be, creating a layer of ice on top of snow. That way you don't create a cloud of snow and immediately give away your position when you fire. May not work as well for a fifty cal of course.

Hey can some of the Yanks help me out with an airgun for second, I have Crossman Rat-catcher with all variations but is there anyone outside of the UK offering a 20in barrel? I have converted mine enough that it's a PCP airgun but I could get just a little more from it with a longer barrel and I am at the end of what I can buy in the UK / EU - I can fab something longer but I'd like to not have to do that and get a longer barrel - if anyone can offer a supplyer of a longer barrel I'd honestly give you a hug because I'm at my whits end and I know that a 24in barrel was an option in the US.

Crossman Rat-catcher
1/2-20" threads. 24" barrels are readily available for both the 2240 and 2250 and cutting that down and threading the end is easy enough. they were only ever offered in 10.5, 12", 14.5", 16" and 24" from the factory, and even custom makers (Maverick Custom Airguns, et c) are usually customizing the shorter end of the barrel lengths, not making 20" ones.

you can also try Alchemy (http://www.alchemyairwerks.com/ ) but i don't know if they'll ship to the UK.

Listening to MATI now.
Null getting all worried about plates. Thinking about exotic 50 bmg rifles and stuff.

00-buck from any 18.5" barrel shotgun.
Ya shotgun isn't the right tool for the job out in an open field or spread out in the the woods. But in a typical home situation your not going to have much warning before they are already coming up your porch steps. Your going to be awoken at 2am by your alarm going off and be all discombobulated for a little bit.

. At 25 yards your going to be sending a pattern out with a 3 FOOT spread. Just aim in the general direction of the circled areas and they will catch 30cal buckshot pellets in the face. If they are on your front porch and you Joe Biden blast them in the face though the door they wont even have a head anymore. Plates? Wont matter at all.

Surprise immediate threats that made it right on the house I would go at with a shotgun. Once the 1st man gets his head turned to coleslaw the others are going to likely run back to the treeline. After that I would fall back to a cover location with my AR and assess the situation.

The Reddit Special: BCM upper + Aero or PSA complete lower, is a great economical option. Then throw a quality dot on there. Good qc, good barrel, nice rail etc. Training and good shot placement beats the meme of wanting to 1 shot punch through level 4 armor. Hiding and waiting to ambush an assailant as they cross through a fatal funnel has much more value than a berrett indoors. Hell, you could have that gun that 1 shots through a level 4 plate, but when you're in that high stress environment you will default to what you've trained and could miss the shot. Just train the Mozambique drill and or get really good at clearing a plate rack fast.

.308 semiauto?
AR-10 Type
Galil ACE .308
M1 Garand .308 (NOT an M1A, Never an M1A)

Otherwise just stick to 5.56, it's cheap and will accomplish 98% of everything you're likely to encounter.

These are my opinions and you cannot change my mind.
Fight me.
There is the VR tac shooter I play, Ghosts of Tabor, the turbo gun sperg game. It's got a gun called the M1SASS. It's the guts of an M1, converted to be mag fed, and with plastic furniture with rails. It fucks hard and I haven't found a quite so close real life equivalent. I would LOVE to build one. 20 round 30.06 mag fed M1 that takes attachments and is lightened and shortened sounds like a dream battle rifle.
Edit: I lied. Appears to be 7.62.51 in the game. Disregard all that.
