Another reason Vito and Dax don't work well together is because neither of them have any actual beliefs and always argue in bad faith. Old TBPITU worked so well because Maddox got genuinely angry when people didn't agree with him, and he got angry because he actually believed what he was saying. Similarly, Destiny is very good at arguing extremely stupid ideas in good faith and takes himself fairly seriously; you can see this in the really old debate he had with Metokur where Jim was constantly taking the piss while Destiny stonefacedly stuck to his points.

That's the kind of foil you need for a show like TBPITU to work. Instead you've got two dipshit manchildren with no morals or values trying to see who can out-retard the other, and it doesn't matter who wins at the end because they're both being 'ironic'. I don't know who the audience is for that.

They're also both too dumb to actually understand the issues enough to make a compelling bad faith argument. The devil's advocate thing can be done entertainingly, but it requires the person to be like, smart and funny. There needs to be enough sense there to trap people into engaging with it, but if there's NO sense it's only about as annoying and entertaining as a dog barking at you.

Dax just comes out with a bunch of mutually contradictory troll points that he probably read off twitter anyway. It's never coherent and it's always obvious he is just trying to make people mad, which ironically makes people not mad and just dismissive.

Those that care about their professional image would not waste time screaming at a microphone long enough to generate drama. They would file a well thought out lawsuit that has merit or just call the police (which is what happened). And anyone who is rash enough to file a not well thought out lawsuit would not sit idly to be bullied. They would fight back and air everything they had on the other guy. Juju ideal Maddox replacement does not exist.

I can see that Dax might have wanted to defend Vito (he defended so much else about him already) but he still pursued it with too much vigor. There was nothing to latch onto with Eric. I am not entirely sure, but I would hazard a guess and say that it is probably due to EVS and their part in ComicsGate.

I never followed any of that sort of drama, because it is gay, but one notable similarity to Gamergate seems to be the move to make products that appeal to the audience the wider industry is no longer serving. A lot of people within his circle had issues with Eric July for different reasons. Due to this and them maybe asking Dick to begin covering him, Dick chose to insert himself and went after Eric hoping to catch lightening in a bottle the way he did with Maddox.

Like a million other drama personalities, he doesn't understand that what made the Maddox situation beneficial for him was a personal touch and Maddox being viewed as the malicious personality in their conflict with each other. Maddox was viewed as unjusticely going after Dick. People wanted to see Maddox taken down a notch. The July situation is completely different: Dick is being viewed as the unjust one for starting drama with somebody for no logical reason and for increasingly escalating the situation to the point it has now reached a personal level.

Dick is not the first person to go through, and he certainly won't be the last. He will however have a unique set of consequences from it and that is where our entertainment begins.

A lot of what Maddox did was entirely self-inflicted, up to and including the Lolsuit. The way it could best be explained was that Maddox built a character of an above-it-all super-genius and then started to actually believe that, which was what ruined his credibility. Even the Marie situation I think she had broken up with Maddox by that point; it's not like Dick just swooped in and stole his girlfriend.

I think from Maddox's point of view it was a personal betrayal by someone he wrongly believed to be a friend, but Dick spun it as Maddox being some bitter ex-boyfriend hang-up.
