Bam is in his mid 40's. It's almost impossible to make it to that age without dealing with the death of someone very close to you. Yes, it sucks, and yes it can really impact the way you look at the world and send you into a bit of a spiral. But it's something most people find a way to carry on with. It's certainly not normal behaviour to torch every other friendship in your life and more or less abandon your kids.

If Ryan Dunn were alive today it's almost certain Bam wouldn't be on speaking terms with him, the same way every other real friend he's ever had has turned their back on him. Bam is a drug addict and mentally a child, and he will latch onto any excuse to justify his self destructive behaviour.

I sympathized for the first couple of years but no, he's just a scumbag and a coward with no redeeming qualities, he was a douchebag 20 years ago and he still is one today but now we know it wasn't all just acting up for the camera.

If ANYONE should be in his position it's Steve-O and yet he's the most well put together out of all of them (which is crazy to think about) although his YT channel is a click bait spamming shit heap now because he doesn't have anything else to say or do beyond the Jackass years and his own personal stories which were what made it popular to begin with. Jackass got toxic as fuck towards the end so I suppose we should be happy that only one member fell in the gutter like this honestly, i'm sure a large portion of the users here came of age in the Jackass golden era of the show and remember it fondly even though shit got disgusting and really unhealthy towards the end. He was also the cringest try hard of the group. My teen memories of that era were Bam vamping around in his stupid goth make-up wannabe death metal BS. He seemed like the outlier in a group of pretty cool guys. I think Bam was trying to milk two fads, but the skating one got the best results for him.

Knoxville was the coolest, but he did have the advantage of being a few years older and a lot more savvy than skater guys.

Tony hawk by all accounts is a nice dude but he's not the most charisma laden and he's also squeaky clean. Bam had the edge people in that time craved before his current he was a marketing dream cute edgy boy girls loved him guys wanted to be him. Sure better skaters are out there in his prime and today but he opened to door to many people.

For as shit as bam is I think of some kid (who's probably 32 now) still shreds on weekend and has a good hobby and stays active thanks to Bam.

In regards to old skating, with all due respect to Tony Hawk Bam also skated a lot of street. While being in his area we had a ton of good parks with ramps but what Tony did was not really as possible for so many. Bam just tore it up on parking stops curbs etc.

My own bias I always loved street best and Rodney Mullen is the GOAT.

I mentioned before one of the times my brother met Bam was Philly has a great skate park under a highway big ramp too. One thing it gave me warm memories (aside the red ass is getting from falling) was how these preteens to adults managed to sort out making sure everyone got a turn on ramps or in bowls, checking for injuries fixing pads etc.

Bam did go there he would never help some kid replace a truck. He was already a big shot.

Bam's had this Nigger Rich attitude since he was 16; where he gets off on making a show of overpaying for stuff, to let everyone know he has fuck-you money (even when he doesn't). Even though Bam knows he's 100% guilty of every crime he's been accused of, a demon he's never been able to resist is his pathological need to make otherwise-shameful events which speak to his inadequacies into a circus he pretends to be the ringmaster of. So yeah: He's going to treat his choice of legal representation as a PR move.

It's all just cope for a life not well-lived - Like if Hunter Thompson never had writing as an outlet for his oppositional defiant disorder. Any talent Bam may have had as a skateboarder when he was 14 was overshadowed by his proclivity for filming himself being a shitty friend to people. Apparently, this is how that road plays out.

Phoenix could be used in textbooks for Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. I hate all the online Dx BS, and FAS is lobbed around way too much, but Phoenix’s facial issues are just undeniably obvious and even exaggerated. (His features are more than enough, but combined with Nikki’s party hardy history until it was announced she was pregnant I think removes any doubt.) It’s to the point I can’t even see much of a resemblance to either parent.

I’ve wondered if it would come up in the court case with Nikki but I doubt it, because I don’t think Bam has any interest in having custody of Phoenix and confirming he has delays would mean more child support $$$. I’d also assume they’d avoid admitting there’s any medical issue with his kid due to the shit they’d catch online for causing it and I’d bet there would be heavy levels of denial from both Nikki and Bam. I haven’t seen any video footage of Phoenix since he was three and I think there are reasons not related to general privacy for it.

I just hope his FAS isn’t severe and he has a shot at leading a independent life because depending on Bam and Nikki for the rest of his life would be hell.
