I mean anyone that knows about the Mortal Kombat and Night Trap "controversy" in the 90's already knew thisSo even back then, democrats/liberals made even worse moral guardians than the religious right.

Al Gore lead the music censorship iirc.
Ironically it's less preachy than any SJW.Funny enough through one of the most balanced video game review sites I've seen, https://www.christcenteredgamer.com/, does a great job separating out the "Game" and "Morality" of what they are reviewing.
I probably couldn't, I tried reading a book about a sniper and it started out pretty strong and then turned into conservative masturbatory wet dream stuff near the end. Ruined the whole thing for me.To bring comics into this, practically anyone can read and enjoy Transmetropolitan and enjoy it even though it’s full of lefty messaging.

Nah, I'd remember a title like that, but I can't really remember the name of the one I read. I think it had Ghost in it, but it wasn't Tom Clancy. Was it Trigger Warning by William Johnstone? That one's a doozey. Never seen a book on Goodreads with a rating below 3.
I'd like to see that thread if you have a link. The 1993-1994 Senate hearings which led to the ESRB (which happened partially due to panic over shootings, to deal with cybertoaster's attempt at a point) were primarily led by such luminaries as Joe Lieberman. Guess the party.
The revisionist or frankly irrelevant history being trotted out is laughable. At least when @Syaoran Li tried to argue this point back in the day he had a few things to actually point at.
And Dee Snider of Twisted Sister became an establishment shill afterwards. I don't know the details, but I think he got TDS and bought into lockdownerism. He voted Hillary Clinton, so I guess that means Democrats are both pro-censorship and anti-censorship?Al Gore lead the music censorship iirc.
They are nakedly pro-censorship for everyone else and anti-censorship for anything they like, no matter how hypocritical, contradictory or nonsensical their arguments are.I guess that means Democrats are both pro-censorship and anti-censorship?
You do know the God botherers ALSO slagged on MK and Night Trap, right? I don't remember Pat Buchanan or Sam Alito or Rush Limbaugh running defense for the video gamers, do you?I mean anyone that knows about the Mortal Kombat and Night Trap "controversy" in the 90's already knew this
Though Trigger Warning does have pretty much the same plot. It's literally a right wing "then everybody clapped" copypasta in book length.Nah, I'd remember a title like that, but I can't really remember the name of the one I read. I think it had Ghost in it, but it wasn't Tom Clancy.
Well that was because back then the primary (and I really do mean primary) market for video games were for children in the 90s. MK and Night Trap were hitting around the time the NES kids were starting to become teenagers with almost every single political believing "video games = (young) children's toys". And those games were not for children, rather the older teenagers and adults. I can see oldies point and confusion which was why the ESRB came out as a comprise: We will make games for adults, but will list and rate it just like we do with movies. Movies were something that the members of the US Gov understood and could relate their thinking to.You do know the God botherers ALSO slagged on MK and Night Trap, right? I swear, people pretend right wing conservatives suddenly morphed into the pro-fun side when Matt Walsh called all anime Satanic and there's still preachers raving about Pokemon....

Most of the Religious Right biggest concern was don't sell this adult shit to kids.

I don't know if "irony" is the right word. I hope some day it becomes common knowledge that persistent, annoying, sociopathic kinds of people will always be found jumping between sides or ideologies. They want power, they don't actually believe in (nor want) anything else. What they side with or call themselves depends exclusively on what will get them power. Every possible label or idea they attach to is just the equivalent of safehouses, which they bounce between. Yesterday it was wannabe-pastor lizardmen screaming for donations at megachurches, today it's social justice obsessives on podcasts who are about as convincing as Andrew Bustamante.Ironically it's less preachy than any SJW.
Nah.That's true, guys. McCarthyism was done by the communists too.
Ebert was an American cultural tastemaker and thereby his thoughts were automatically more attended to than pretty much anyone in the UK. That's the reality. It's like how Americans keep insisting that the opinion of Rodger Ebert matters. A dead film critic that saw games overtake movies and was salty about it. I don't really care about trying to make game that appease his idea of what gaming need to do to be considered art.
And this exposes how foolish you are being. If there's any standards Democrats have, it is double standards.so I guess that means Democrats are both pro-censorship and anti-censorship?
I am being foolish, because I don't buy it. My opinion/response has already been covered far better by others, so I'll just quote them. And this exposes how foolish you are being. If there's any standards Democrats have, it is double standards.

That explains why Americans have no taste.Ebert was an American cultural tastemaker
