Crime Neil Gaiman Accused of Sexual Assault, Author Denies Allegations

Acclaimed author Neil Gaiman is facing multiple allegations of sexual assault, making him the subject of a police complaint in New Zealand. Gaiman has offered a response as well, refuting the accusations.

Per Tortoise Media, two women have accused Gaiman of sexual assault while in consensual relationships with the author. The allegations go back two decades, but they were first reported on in Tortoise's podcast Master: the allegations against Neil Gaiman, which was released on Wednesday. The women describe allegations of "rough and degrading sex," alleging that these instances were not always consensual.

One of the two accusers, a 23-year-old woman named Scarlett, claims she was sexually assaulted in February 2022 just hours after first meeting Gaiman. According to Scarlett, the assault happened in a bath at Gaiman's New Zealand home where she was hired to work as a nanny for his child. Gaiman says that the two merely "cuddled" and "made out" that day, adding that a three-week sexual relationship ensued, but was entirely consensual. Scarlett insists that Gaiman was "rough and degrading," and reportedly, messages, notes, and accounts from friends support her allegations.

Another accuser, identifying herself as K, says she was an 18-year-old fan when she first met Gaiman at a book signing in Sarasota, Florida, in 2003. K claims that she began a romantic relationship with Gaiman after she turned 20, resulting in engaging in rough sex that she "neither wanted nor enjoyed." It's alleged that one particular incident saw Gaimain forcefully penetrating K despite her objections.

Gaiman has denied this claim as well. The Sandman author maintains that his relationship with K was never unlawful and that he's "disturbed" to be accused of such behavior. According to Gaiman, K's allegations stem from "regret" over the relationship she had when it was over. He also attributed Scarlett's allegations to a condition she has that's associated with false memories, but the Tortoise report noted that this isn't supported by the accuser's medical records.

Additionally, Gaiman has strongly denied all allegations of non-consensual sex at any time with the women accusing him of sexual assault. He also claimed that New Zealand police ignored his offer for assistance with one woman's complaint in 2022, suggesting that shows a lack of substance in the investigation. New Zealand officers have responded by saying they made a "number of attempts to speak to key people as part of this investigation and those efforts remain ongoing." It was added that there are "a number of factors to take into consideration with this case, including location of all parties.”

Gaiman has long been one of pop culture's most revered authors, bringing to life acclaimed stories like The Sandman, Good Omens, and American Gods. Just recently, Netflix has been promoting the upcoming second season of The Sandman, which is based on Gaiman's source material; he also executive produces the series.

Honestly while Gaiman was not on the top of my "insufferable and terminally overhyped geek culture retards I cant wait to get outed as sex predators for my own amusement" list (currently being topped by Wil Wheaton followed by Alan Moore) I cannot deny feeling that little bit jollier with the thought I may never have to hear him mentioned again

Meanwhile, Neil Gaiman is currently trending in second place (behind just “art” for some reason) on tumblr. Top posts seem mostly against him, with common trends being “this is why you shouldn’t form parasocial relationships” and “he was a zionist anyways so why are we surprised.”
Neil himself has not posted on his tumblr blog (@/Neil-gaiman) since July 2nd at 6:34PM EST, which was a reblog of a reply to his answer about when Good Omens 2 might come to DVD.

Wait this nigga defended loli?

Neil, noooooo! It’s not trueeeeeeeee!

I read a good chunk of American Gods and thought it was pretty fucking boring, is there anything by this dude you guys recommend? I feel like in time, cancellations are just going to lead to people's shit getting pulled from shelves and online storefronts with the remainder being burned so I'd like to get my hands on anything good while it's still around.

I'm pretty sure he said something like he's never read it, didn't personally support what he knew of it, but that banning it would be a greater evil than allowing it.

Basically the old school view of free speech liberals had before the rise of social justice. Personally can't really fault him here. Though I also personally will never not give loli enjoyers a side eye. And that it should also not be allowed to be freely disseminated to minors, though how you stop that these days I admit I have no good idea.

I generally like his short stories, but can take or leave his novels. A Study in Emerald is one of my favorite short stories of all time, won't lie. But I'm kind of a sucker for Sherlock Holmes crossovers, so adding Lovecraft to the mix I've always thought is pretty cool. It is available for free on Gaiman's site:

The almost comic book graphics are also quite well done.

Then again, garbage like The Problem of Susan, where Gaiman takes that icky poo Christian C.S. Lewis to task for cutting Susan out of Narnia and is basically a thinly disguised Twitter thread of fedora tipping and m'ladying.

FWIW, the handful of people on Tumblr who aren't genderspecials are laughing about this and how histrionic his fanbase is being. It's a complete shitshow.

Trigger Warning, the short story collection. I'm actually surprised I haven't seen rage against him over that because the title and forward are basically him saying 'yeah uh fiction's supposed to make you uncomfortable sometimes and you might hate some of these stories. deal with it'.

Not a high recommendation though. It's just okay with a couple good stories (iirc, read it like 6? years ago around whenever it came out).

He should have gone offline a decade ago, but he's an addict, to the point where I can't think of a more terminally online celebrity, or one that has been gazing into the Internet abyss for so long, and you know what they say about what happens when you gaze long into an abyss: it makes you a fag.
When are they going to start having interventions for the internet like they do for alcoholics?

Too early to say one way or the other, but I so want this to be true.

Was there ever a male feminist who wasn't a fucking rapist on the downlow?
Keanu Reeves. When MeToo was happening, he smartly would stand next to women with his hands hovering above their waists or shoulders. Guy was smart enough to never be caught in a compromising position.

As for Neil, this was a long time coming. He's sowing his wild oats and the piggies have come right back to rip them up. Sorry, bud. This is the culture you cultivated. I haven't see this kind of surprise such as when Bryan Fuller, creator of Hannibal, got hit with the sex pest accusations, too.

Whilst every instinct I have screams "yeah - thought so" about this, my principles forbid me to take it as true without evidence. And waiting over a decade to bring charges is never a good sign. Nor, frankly, is having a relationship with someone after they sexually assaulted you if you want people to believe you about the sexual assault. It happens but it also makes things very blurry.

However, whilst I wont condemn him for this without evidence (no matter how much it confirms my prejudices), I will take this opportunity to say that he is one of the people whose work I despite most of all. The reason is that it's very much a facsimile and soulless in an area where soul is the most critical of all. He assembles stories out of mythical elements without ever actually feeling the underlying thing that makes myths real. It's not because his work is superficial that I despise it. An airport novel about having designer things and hot men might be superficial. I despise it because it is superficial that is taken as deep by some people. He's like if you fed a bunch of myths, faerie tales etc. into an AI and out pops a story containing those elements but it's just... dead. His work is like a late-stage religion that contains the symbolism or motifs of its earlier stage but no longer has the animating spirituality. Like the shell of some sea creature that remains after the creature itself is gone.

I'll give Gaiman the chance he never would other people and say I'll wait to see how this goes.

However.

Neil Gaiman is 63, something this article dodges. This is a 63 year old man talking about a 23 year old he employed. Fuck the article for failing to say this and fuck his creepy ass for employing someone specifically to fuck while pretending their job was to look after his child. Get a whore with dignity you piece of shit.

Edit - to clarify he should exercise dignity while getting a whore. Not find a dignified whore.
"You yank my dick if you like this job, kid!"
:stress:
Well, he found out for science just how long that ploy works. 3 weeks.

Keanu Reeves is not a Male Feminist. Also, I would absolutely believe Keanu is genuinely sensitive to women not wanting to be sexually harassed; flashbacks to being Barry Diller's sex toy when you're actually a young, straight man could do that.

I found it a bit dull too. I did enjoy Neverwhere and Stardust but the best really is Good Omens (because Pratchett co-wrote it). I may have other books of Gaimen’s but if I do, they weren’t good enough to remember.

What a shocker. He’s been King Faggot ruling over the kingdom of Tumblr for decades now. He’s so radioactive that anyone who claims to be a fan of his work I immediately dismiss as just as gross and twisted as he is. This has been a long time coming and I can’t wait for his downfall.

A man in Gaiman's political milieu that cannot keep his dick firmly tucked in his pants deserves everything he gets. If you're King of the Tumblrinas, you better be signing thick "enthusiastic consent" contracts overseen by three lawyers before you so much as kiss another human on the cheek. Not banging barely-legal teenagers who work for you.

He's too much of a softboi to ever actually rape anyone

Your scope of "rape" isn't wide enough. "Male feminist" style rape/assault isn't holding down a woman and forcing yourself on her, it's waiting until she's drunk and asleep, or targeting an impressionable teenager and verbally coercing her and threatening suicide until she reluctantly gives in.

Now, Gaiman probably has not done either of those things, but what I'm getting at is that a man can still commit heterosexual rape while being an insufferable faggot. It's one of those miracles of nature.

Gaiman went to pound town on that Amanda Palmer pussy.

I remember the Tumblr crowd tried to come after Amanda Palmer a few years ago and make her do a ritual denunciation of a song she wrote which they decided was offensive to trannies, and she told them to fuck off. That alone makes her way too good for him.
