It's funny how whenever this sort of "art" appears on my xitter timeline I can with 100% accuracy predict that the "artist" has "13 |autistic|bi|she/herView attachment 6149229View attachment 6149230

Unspecifically and lazily,
I hate tumblr and calarts and whatever shit like this is called.
It could be an association thing where I know if something looks like this it's garbage or there's a really annoying person behind it.
But it just looks annoying and shitty to me.
The stupid blush on the nose, fingers, elbows, etc.
Characters with very specific ugly features or blemishes that they all copy and use over and over. Etc etc.
Check out the American Visionary Art Museum (AVAM). It has art primarily from self-taught artists, mentally ill, schizophrenics, criminals, and BlaX. Some of it is amazing, like model ships made of toothpicks and Ingo Swann's stuff, other pieces are not so good.I'll start by posting the gallery of the Museum of Bad Art (MOBA) for anyone who needs a good chuckle. Post your favorite paintings from there if you want. Here's a taste:
@MS Paint GigachadLmao who the fuck would want to generate that to begin with. Besides, it's so simple, easy to mimic and devoid of stylistic rules that a lot of the corporate art you see now is actually made by AI, and it's impossible to tell apart.
I can't laugh too much at those as they're still more competent-looking faces than what I can draw. Frankly that second one doesn't even look that bad aside from the lady's tard face.I'll start by posting the gallery of the Museum of Bad Art (MOBA) for anyone who needs a good chuckle.
I watched some movie clips from Elemental and the characters are so damn ugly. They're all some variety of potato-faced blob, especially the main water guy.A couple of Pixar films having a style that I can best describe as “3D Calarts”. The worst offenders imo are Elemental and Turning Red.

I don’t care how “relatable” or “wholesome” the internet says these films are, the art style alone puts me off completely. Every time I see that water guy I just want him to evaporate.
I'm not an illustrator by any means, but the little basic I know when designing a character for a project is this: Can a toddler draw the characteristics of said character? If not, it's back to the conceptboard and redo the whole thing. If you can't start to recognize the character with just a few pencil strokes, just stop!I can't laugh too much at those as they're still more competent-looking faces than what I can draw. I actually kind of like the bad examples, they're fascinatingly demented.
Ironically I don't like Picasso all that much.
Nigga Picasso made this at age 15Pablo Picasso, fuck him, his art work is ugly and his personality was even uglier.

Just wanted to say that Bosch is the best. The Garden of Earthly Delights is like Where's Waldo on LSD.Art can be a tool for more than that, from emotional experience relation, to relaxation, to showcasing tragedies and the ugly side of humanity, to shitposting.
Oh god, the Frida Kahlo worship gets under my skin. The current crop of art school feminist types just like how she looks, not how her work looks. Notice how they're never into, say, Georgia O'Keeffe? Probably because you couldn't pick her out of a crowd. (Despite her paintings being immediately recognizable.)Anything made by Frida Kahlo.
She's the Che Guevara for hippie art school women.

That's nothing. KO-OP's take on Wani is even worse.View attachment 6149364
This Snootgame fan game has a really offputting artstyle.
I agree. I think Picasso was a fantastic artist. I just don't like his more stylistic, abstract art. It isn't something I can express in an intellectual fashion, I just went to a Picasso exhibit once and was unimpressed.Nigga Picasso made this at age 15

There was literally no way for him to improve anymore, so he went stylized. I'm not a fan neither but damn, he essentially reached level 100 before becoming an adult. He understood depth, perspective, shading, colour and other fundamentals long before he'd be allowed to drink.
Peope ITT misunderstand art and style. Sure many of them flat out suck. Deviantart users ape manga without a foundation so they end with that "almost but uglier" manga style. Modern artists are often rich kids that get into art school through connections, rather than skill and desire for improving, combined with the "white washing" theory, it means modern art is soulless and pointless.
But many other artists stylize their art for the purpose of symbolism, meaning or simply because they find their style. Others are simply not great artists, which doesn't make me want to hate their art but give feedback and hope they improve. Art is about expression, not perfection. No artists starts perfect.
How many people itt actually make art themself? Not many I presume.
And yes, CalArts and Memphis are insanely ugly artstyles, I agree on that.
As an aside, I like following artists who aren't technically skilled but creative and are trying to improve. They remind me of young me and it is fun watching someone's skills evolve. But many other artists stylize their art for the purpose of symbolism, meaning or simply because they find their style. I can speak for myself and say I do, but I feel that there should be a place where those who don't can stil bitch that something is ugly, even if it is for reasons we disagree with - and then we can make post justifying our side like this and have interesting discussions. Being able to just say "goddamn this is fucking ugly" to a room of people is still nice. How many people itt actually make art themself? Not many I presume.
Some of his abstract art I like in his earlier abstract days, but his later period I rather just look at underground comixs for that style done right imo.I agree. Apparently there's an entire debacle around owning her rights and her likeness. She's become an icon more than an artist, a famous unconventional beauty who liked women's rights and communism and did art and was a minority and what have you. It's not Kahlo as a person. She has some really interesting diaries and personal art she didn't share as much that depicts her struggle with actual deep topics like the bus accident that made her disabled and in constant pain, but her image is what is attractive to people, not her thoughts, which fucking sucks.Oh god, the Frida Kahlo worship gets under my skin. I avoided Elemental for a while because Wade and Ember were nauseating to look at in motion. Their parts were moving so often I thought I was going to get motion sickness. Also I'll never watch Turning Red because all I can see is that Grubhub commercial. Not the best way to show a girl starting puberty.A couple of Pixar films having a style that I can best describe as “3D Calarts”. The worst offenders imo are Elemental and Turning Red.

Culture Warriors have no sense of subtlety at all. It's why all their media ends up as forgettable goyslop. They completely fore-go any good story telling or subtle messaging in favor of "owning™" the other side.Mr. Birchum, Brickleberry and all the other adult animated shows that rips off Family Guy's art style looks like a mobile ad.
The focus is different. You know how you can tell what fetishes artists have based on what they emphasize, or what they "empathize with" more, like with RCD's cat picture? Anatomy is less interesting to people like that than sick armor. Anime heads are more appealing, more aesthetic to them, regardless of how much they clash with everything else. But yes it's more advanced Adventure Time porn. It's even more incongruent the contrast is that stark; the pieces don't complement each other. It's the equivalent to covering a coffee-crusted steak with melted marshmallows.I find drawings of this type ugly to look at. How do you have the ability to draw armor so well but you completely ruin it with the anatomy. What I hate most are the small anime girl heads without any details with a totally deformed body, try to be realistic.
