I am still not convinced feminism specifically is the root cause. The central problem with that thesis is that even Arab nations like UAE, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and so on have falling birth rates. Iran is below 2,0 as well.

It looks like the culprit is wealth. Muslim nations with high wealth have low birth rates, those poorer ones tend to have higher. If current trends continue all developed nations will fade away, no matter if they are liberal or not.

I am suspecting there is some absolute level of wealth that wants you go over, birth rates decline. And it's not particuarily high either. Basically as soon as you get urbanised and stop subsistence farming, it is starting to happen. And it doesn't matter what political ideology or religion the country has.

We have the United States, Germany, Iran, North Korea, Russia, Japan and China (and many others) in the same club. Feminism is the dominating ideology in some, but not all. Russia and China specifically can hardly be described as feminist. But the have the same issues.

Feminism is fucking up a lot of things, but I don't see how it can be the main culprit for the demographic decline given what is happening in other countries. The data just doesn't support it.

I don't know enough about the history of every western nation, but in Imperial Germany we already saw a decline compared to pre industrialisation levels. It took a while to drop below replacement because the starting point was so high.
Granted, the data for the 18th and early 19th century is more fuzzy and we have the additional factor of high child mortality. If you look at the graph it's a slow decline since the 1850s with two major outliers during world war 1 and the baby boomers. Those are in my view outliers and no trend reversals. I guess for the baby boomers, it can be argued that it would have been a trend reversal if the pill was never introduced. We will never know though.

like i said china and russia aren't loud and performative about it like westerners (who go out of their way to put #girlboss propaganda in every piece of media they possibly can) and they don't do the whole culture war shit domestically, but both the ussr(*) and communist china have been implementing measures to get women out of the home and into the workforce for many decades now. the ccp even did their infamous one child policy for a while - that is over now, but the drive to get women as highly educated as humanly possible and put them to work (for the private sector or for the state) remains ongoing.

I'm a college-educated, white male who lives in a city. We can talk about trends that are true about such people. Some will apply to me, some won't. I might have some relevant anecdotes. But what won't happen is me getting angry when you observe some statistic.

A woman, by contrast, can't handle that sort of discussion because she sees it as being about her, personally. A woman is hasty to bring up exceptions to a rule because she wants to ensure the rule isn't applied to her, personally. If she's a Republican, observing most women are Democrats will upset her. If she's six feet tall, observing most women are under 5'8" will upset her.
