Self-Sufficient Meta Thread - Discussion about the board, not the topics of self-sufficiency.

I've never used /diy/ but I've used /k/, /g/, /biz/, and /pol/ and all of those boards are completely dead and ruined since 2016 at the absolute latest. Everyone knows it.
/k/ was bad but after Russia invaded Ukraine it got 1000% worse. Here's a chart of /k/ posting volume. I'm sure it's all organic and not paid shills.

Sorry to double post, but I remembered something about drilling:

adjustable torque. For example, drilling through brick/wood/drywall - you want to use different torque settings for the material, so you do not accidentally bore your hollow-wall anchor directly through the drywall. Or strip the threads on a tapped hole. For removing bolts I use higher torque than setting them. That "click-click-click" sound meaning the bolt is secured as tightly as the torque allows. Impact driver is nice to have too as well as various solvents.

I was never a huge /k/ person and I don't really have an interest of trying to make an off-site 4chan community. I really don't think specifically trying to appeal to and attract 4chan users is a good idea at this point. The real pillars of that community and of those boards is just gone.

You also want to use torque settings so when your 1 1/2" auger bit jams your drill doesn't try and remove your arm. Also, learn to stop worrying and buy deep depth hole saws so you can make it through a 2x4 at a 45 degree angle.

Hey, you made a Brit happy by making this board.

its posters are pretty high quality, which is nice.
Best website in the world baby.

God going to /k/ is a shitshow now. I mean it wasn't all sunshine and napalm before but it's just terminally online political faggotry turned up to the nth degree.
Gun talk might be a little iffy and invite feds to come and fuck about. Everybody be smart and nobody talk to niggas trying to sell you guns in PMs. I could just be over-thinking it though.
Always hide your power level on the internet, even in DMs.

Ahhh, reminds me of Fabricator General Scriptarius. Good lad, great baker. 4chan died when people like him left, either willingly or because they saw the writing on the wall.

At least in the Mega Rad, it's a nice little insular community inside this insular community where everyone knows everyone. I've seen newfags come in and glow, and they usually don't even get responded to. Everyone just moves on to talk about the 10/22 they accidentally blew up this weekend. So everyone play smart now that you're joining and especially clear exif data if you upload anything.

oh man, tacticool and gun spergs are gonna go nuts

I'm excited for a board like this. We've started growing some of our own vegetables a fruits. I've been learning to pickle and jar things. Some more tips could really be helpful.
What are you growing fren?
My go-to is usually cucumber & red onion since I grow quite a few of those every year, on 60% vinegar 40% water with salt thrown in for good measure. Can add garlic too if you enjoy that. Makes a great addition to homegrown lettuce for a salad.

I think one thing would be to give this board a week or two and then have the jannies sweep it up and do some thread merging. Maybe we don't need 3 security camera threads, or maybe we do.

Keep it at least slightly curated and easy to find stuff.

It's just different types of peppers right now, serrano and I'm trying to grow some cayenne peppers too. I've pickled some of the serranoes, and I've been drying the rest for my own blend of chili powder.

FIL grew up growing his own stuff so he's been helping us with getting a good garden going. I'm thinking peppers, cucumbers, some onions, maybe some garlic, and tomatoes should be good. Just stuff I know we use a lot in cooking. Also been making my own stock from left over bones or scraps from vegetables.
