"The ONLY REASON for the electoral college's existence is so electors can annul the popular vote and prevent people from electing demagogues. It has COMPLETELY IGNORED it's only purpose. And so it has no purpose. The electoral college doesn't exist so "States" get to decide who the president is, it exists to over rule bad decisions by the people. It refuses to do so.
So yeah, it should be dismantled."
"To quote Kyle Broflovski from South Park, "You know, I learned a very important lesson today."
The fact that Donald Trump won the electoral vote while Hilary Clinton won the popular vote must be remembered in American history as a symbol of how flawed our voting system really is and how America, despite our claims of it being "the land of the free", isn't so free after all.
Trump being inaugurated as president should serve as a symbol of how America, a democratic country, has allowed a bunch of politicians, known as the electoral college, to decide who our president should be and not the people themselves.
We must look past the shock and horror of Trump's victory and impending presidency and think about how we should change our voting system so that way, another Donald Trump will not come to power. By doing so, we can truly call ourselves and be called by others "the land of the free".
We must dismantle the electoral college for it serves as an artifact of older times and as a sign of the risks of leaving power in the hands of the few instead of the majority. We must dismantle the electoral college to show the world that we can be considered by ourselves and by other countries to be "the land of the free" by showing them that we can choose our own president, not the ones who govern America, but the people who live in America.
We must use this election to change not only ourselves but America as a country as well, so that way, we will be able to shine even brighter in the foreseeable future."
