I'm in the camp that thinks that they thought Trump would back off. They set up the debate after challenging Trump, make the conditions to it so clearly lopsided Trump decides to back out, then use that to claim he is a coward and hit his respect. Its not... a bad plan? And I can see how they got there. But it backfired horribly when Trump decided to stay in and they were locked in to it too.

The story of the left is and always has been that they believe their own hype.
In the 70s they set off thousands -- THOUSANDS -- of pipe bombs a year because they believed that the US was primed for a Communist Uprising and they just needed to convince the citizenry to rise up and put them into power.
If you asked the alt-left on say, twitter, they'd absolutely say that they hold the majority views in America. In reality progressives are ~8 percent of Americans.
If you ask a leftist what a righty believes they'll have no fucking idea, but they do know they hate them and want to see them dead or suffering.
Biden's closest handlers knew he was brain dead. Everyone else -- pundits, voters, Whitehouse staffers, press, everyone -- keeps seeing him walk off screen to do all these super amazing feats of intellectual mastery, physical prowess, and daring do, all while the press and their friends and their influencers and their books and their forums and their blogs and their families and literally everything else in their lives upheld the view that Biden was some sort of cross between FDR and John Wick. Epistemic Closure is the term.
Plus... there are the other theories that have been put out there:
* They might have genuinely overprepped him
* Trump might have genuinely broken Biden's limited CPU capacity by forcing him to go off script
* They might have expected Trump to refuse
* Biden might have sundowned hard at that time of night
* He might have been taking the drugs too often during prep, leading them to stop working
Makes me wonder how bad the second debate will go. He's set expectations so low that if he shows up with a pulse he "wins." Plus ABC is far, FAR more hostile than even CNN.

I don't think it necessarily accelerated so much as they kept him very cloistered and under very controlled and rehearsed speaking conditions.
That being said, I have a fairly extensive amount of experience with Alzheimers and generalized dementia patients. It is progressive. There may be moments of lucidity, but on the whole each day is worse than the last. It takes some people years, but each patient will eventually reach a point that it is truly noticeable. I personally think Biden is at that point, but I would qualify that he has a long way down to go.
There are a number of different conditions that lead to dementia, which is a catch-all term for progressive cognitive decline. Generally the brain atrophies and shrinks across all areas, so it's not just a memory condition. You can see that pretty effectively when Biden walks. He has a progressively abnormal gait.
He is a major fall risk right now, and I wouldn't be surprised if he takes a bad fall and gets hospitalized in the next few months. It's extremely common.
Edit: The main thing you should keep in mind is that he's going to get considerably worse the more time goes on. The fact that the next debate is in September is not an asset to him, regardless of how much he prepares. He will be 2 months more advanced in his disease.

They had no choice. Biden was already down in not only every battleground state, but even the national poll average. They had to do something, anything, to possibly change the momentum of the race. The debate was their best hope, all they needed was Biden to even vaguely get in a few decent lines and they'd let the Media do the rest, proclaiming it a win for the Dem just like every other debate in modern history.
It's not like they could send him out to actually campaign, he can barely function even when he's still lucid. He'd never be able to stand outside for long speeches like Trump does or do dozens of rallies to try and turn around his poll numbers in the Rust Belt, plus Biden tends to get angry when people ask him questions. He nearly punched a Detroit auto-union worker back in 2020, because the guy asked a simple question about gun control.
A single 90 minute debate was the best option they had.
They also were able to set the debate conditions heavily in Biden's favor; they pushed it earlier than ever before to add some protection in case it was a loss so people would forget about it, they had CNN moderators, no audience, microphones turned off to avoid interruptions, Biden had an ear piece all night, Biden had written notes (against the rules) to pull from all night. The only thing Trump didn't agree to was to let Biden sit in a chair. You can see why they'd think it was a good idea to send him out there, they had it as rigged in his favor as humanly possible. All he had to do was show up, spout some rehearsed lines, and they'd have a win they could coast on for months.
Instead, Biden fucked up so horribly the Democrat-Media complex now wants him gone and people are seriously considering putting Kamala in charge.

The last debate was a disaster but now he's gota do the next one.
If he bails - oh god he's senile will be everywhere and it will have terrible optics.

Yeah they fucked up the drugs.
It's probably a moving target with what will give him some real performance. But he is degrading physically and mentally in real time, he's developing tolerances to the stimulants and some of the more actual medicinal drugs they are using are likely waning in effectiveness requiring them to try new pharmaceuticals which leads them back into uncharted territory. Not to mention timing and interactions... Junkies kill themselves aiming for the sweet spot and often they are only dosing one drug. I feel bad for the staffers trying to conjure up dark Brandon for the big show.

There is no amount of Adderall you can give a dementia patient to make him not a dementia patient. He will just be a wired one.
It probably really helps when he needs to stay on task and read a prompter, but not when he has to give decent answers to questions. That requires recall and an ability to comprehend your current situation in relationship to what has happened recently.

My view on Trump VP picks. Take into account that this is viewed through the lens that they will 100% kill him if he doesn't liquidate the entirety of the intelligence agencies as well as their families with predator drones on day one. Here's the funniest thing about that. I don't think Kamala wants to be the nominee, either. Biden is power-hungry and clearly wants to remain in power, but there's a rising faction from the left wing that wants him out. If he ever goes down, they would need Kamala to be the replacement to minimize the legal battles; however, she has so much baggage that she's as unelectable as Biden, and she's smart enough to understand that.

This. They think Trump is an oaf and probably wouldn't rely on him to be wise enough to see the trap they set for him and avoid it. They think he's the luckiest man in the world that has retardedly bumbled his way into being a billionaire and president. I think they were hoping that Trump would PEEPEE POOPOO the second they muted his mic. They wanted footage of him raging with no audio so they could laugh at in on the morning shows all while their brainwashed audiences were free from being exposed to his message. I personally believe they even tried to set Trump up when they would give Biden the final word on something, and Biden used it to lie about Trump. They would leave Trump's mic muted and either go on to the next question or go to break. Trump didn't take the bait.
Trump's showing wasn't even in the top 5 of his debate appearances, but his strategy shift to accommodate CNN's bullshit rules was masterful. He bypassed Biden getting the last word by using the time of his next question to refute the previous lie, then would get extra time to answer the question asked. He probably won't get this luxury if there's a second debate, as the moderators will be primed to interrupt him the second he isn't directly answering the question they just asked. The only images people will remember are Trump grinning while Biden has a staring contest with the grim reaper. They expected him to flop so hard that they didn't even consider that Biden might not do well, or at least they would have enough fodder on Trump to bump any Biden criticism out of the news cycle.
If the DNC is hiring any strategists, I'm available. I'm not qualified, but I'm also not half as retarded as the qualified people they do hire.

Coffee is great if I didn't get a great sleep but if I haven't had any sleep in 72 hours you can't just give me a Red Bull and tell me I'm fine. A few aspirin will help a minor headache but it won't be very effective if I've just been shot.

Simply put, Democrats expected a 3 v 1 cage match where Trump's mic stayed muted and two hosts shrieked at him for being the bad orange man while Joe chuckled, put on his aviators, and licked an ice cream cone.
Remember that the true believers on the left live their lives totally cocooned within a media-fueled reality distortion field. It shocked them, genuinely rocked their worlds, for CNN to turn off the distortion field and just fire questions straight down the middle at both candidates, exposing Joe Biden as being about as qualified for the office of president as a potted office fern. Honestly I don't really understand their motivation either.
But now there are two types of Democrat. Those who were lied to about Biden's condition and were credulous enough to believe it, and those who spread the "Biden is as sharp as a tack!" lie knowing full well that it was false. These two groups are deeply unhappy with each other right now. One because they were taken for suckers and now their candidate for president is a literal zombie, and the other because the stupid sheep have escaped the pen again and they worked really damn hard at trapping them there.

I actually do buy the sabotage theory to some degree. There is an absolutely massive schism between the more traditional Democracts and the openly Communist progressive wing.
The latter is absolutely fucking furious, mostly over Isreal but they are also race radicals and the upper echelon of the DNC being wealthy white people enrages them.
