Clips like this are surfacing, it's very possible that Fillian never even bought the model and had instead ripped it and has based her entire brand on a stolen model she may not even know the origins of.
(Its totally possible she went back and bought the model(s), and does actually have a legal license to use it, though clearly she didn't have rights/permission to use it for merch.)

I will say for context I saw earlier today someone linked that clip in it's original context from the stream and I watched a bit of what was before and after what this clip shows. And at least with this specific story she's talking about some other model she also streams with called "mint" (I genuinely just don't know enough about Fillian to know what this means) but it's a separate thing from her current model which is a modified version of the Rindo model.

Possible it's the case and what she did for both models, but this specific story at least I don't believe applies directly to her current model.

I don't know, no company being willing to touch you with a 10 foot pole and no merch ever seems like indie death to me. Even if she properly gets a new model and all the rights to it, every company will have to go above and beyond researching EVERY related asset and I feel like they'd just as easily say "fuck it".

*Piracy as in she ripped the model from a world or something in VRchat, not that she purposely went out of her way to find a reuploaded of the base models zip and took it from there.

Definitely agree just think it's important to know what we have actual hard receipts of and what we're just assuming based on other evidence.

You know a lot of indies do just fine without brand partnerships right? As long as she has a following and a subscriber base she'll be alright. The risk in her response isn't her career dying because brands like goodsmile don't like her (that is damaging but not death for a streamer) the danger is if she responds in a way that pisses off enough of her fans to actually damage her subscriber base.

I am trying to remember in my 20s if I was this stupid. I was pretty dumb, but I don't think even I was this dumb.
E: If they go to court this would eviscerate her even further. I wonder if they could claim rights to any money she made using the model before buying it legally.

It might be. Depends on if Youtooz and the other merchandise companies had clauses in the contracts ensuring that Filian owned the IP and she was responsible on her end for anything involved with it.
Or if they'll be liable for making and selling a character she didn't own. This could get messy.

well, the creator said they hadn't been contacted by the vtuber (filian) or goodsmile so I'd rule out that possibility. and the rule about producing goods is available in English (as I linked in an earlier post)

Add this the the numerous times she's talked on stream about not owning her design, and any hope of a believable "well I just didn't know" starts to fall away. I think she's genuinely just retarded.

This I'm surprised by as well, there's like three layers to this where I'm left asking "why didn't someone actually figure this out sooner" Fillian herself should have known, Goodsmile should have looked into it, but then also I'm surprised that Mythic which represents Filian never looked into this stuff with her model/character considering part of their role as well would be finding partnerships and merch opportunities for their members. How no party among the three stopped to think "do we actually have the rights to produce this merchandise" at some point up until now baffles me. And yet here we are with exactly that seemingly having happened.
