Sorry to vent here, but I just argued with my parents over this. My mother thinks he did this to help his numbers, and my father says the guy didn't shoot straight like he would have.

I was actually doing shit and didn't learn about one of the most impactful things in political history until several hours later. It's a good thing the attempt failed for everyone regardless of political side, that's for sure. What are the odds the media are going to play this as a gun control issue and ignore the fact it was literally the Republican candidate and accept no blame. Reminds me of the circumstances around the assassination of Franz Ferdinand, and how by pure chance his assassin found an opportunity to kill him. An inch or two, a gust of wind, a twitch of the trigger finger and Trump is dead. But a coincidental movement of his head and now history is forever changed.
