I'm not a Trump voter, but I am a realist and this is an absolute checkmate and GG to the Dems. If this hadn't happened and the Dems managed to replace Biden (esp. with someone like Whitmer from a state both Trump AND the Dems need to win), there was absolutely chance they could've squeaked out an EV win (in the range between 270 and 290 or so) and kept the White House because Trump is not super popular with non-GOP voters and nominating someone who isn't an ancient white dude might've energized the Dem's base since they tend to care a lot about that stuff. But now? No. Not a chance. Whether I (or anyone else who aren't fans of his) like it or not, Trump is going to be the first president since Grover Cleveland to serve two non-consecutive terms and the GOP will likely flip the senate and expand their majority in the house.
Shooting a head of state or candidate thereof, outside of some super rare, extremely specific Hitler/Stalin/Pol Pot/Mao-type scenario that basically never happens (and certainly doesn't apply here) wherein they're both A) actively killing huge swaths of people and/or bringing tangible, immediate ruination onto the country AND B) a sizable amount of not just citizens but, crucially, *their own government/party* actually really hates them but everyone is too scared to do anything, is the dumbest, most counterproductive shit imaginable.
If they die, they're going to be a martyr and their successor will basically get to ram through as much of their legislative agenda as they want (see also: LBJ after JFK) while also having a huge advantage in whatever the next election is since the voting public isn't going to want to have 3 different presidents/premiers/whatever in such short order.
And if they don't die, you've made them a hero, given them an absolute assload of free positive press, made the opposition party both look simultaneously at least partially responsible AND trip over themselves to speak positively about them and *greatly* boosted their likelihood of winning the election (their own base will be motivated and those on the fence will be more likely to be sympathetic and/or impressed by their resilience ).
JFK was at best a C- president until he got domed, and now he's spoken of in the same breath as Lincoln and Jefferson. Reagan got shot and lived and, while there were other factors at play (not least of which an incredibly weak Dem nominee), most political historians agree that surviving an assassination attempt while looking tough and gregarious contributed to the absolute decimation of the Dems in the 1984 election.
And in this instance, we now have a picture of Trump fist-pumping as he's ushered off stage, blood gushing from his ear to contrast with Biden looking like a coma patient at the debate.
So, whatever absolute mongoloid retard thought this was a good idea to do has accomplished exactly the opposite of whatever he set out to do. This is obviously abhorrent from a moral standpoint, but even from some sort of realpolitik strategic standpoint is about the worst, dumbest thing imaginable someone can do.
