Lots of poor people are living on sad convenience food now and Polissa doesn't seem to come from very well-off stock. OTOH there's no excuse at this point in history for not being able to figure out how to feed yourself. She's on the internet and she has nothing but time.

I know a popular one around here is to buy those deli chickens. They often put them on special and you can get a bunch of meat and then do soup with the carcass. Day-old rolls are better than the off-brand Wonderbread she's getting, and those are significantly marked down.
