they're obviously treating him to get his red blood cell count down to normal levels, but that doesn't necessarily mean he has polycythemia vera, nor does it mean he's receiving cancer treatment. boogie is not correct that secondary polycythemia and polycythemia vera are treated the same way. there are specific medications for polycythemia vera

which block the mutated gene from producing red blood cells. this is actual cancer treatment. secondary polycythemia has nothing to do with mutated genes. this is not a medication you would take if you had secondary polycythemia because secondary polycythemia is treated by addressing the secondary condition causing elevated red blood cells and has nothing to do with cancerous growth. to say both conditions are treated the same is a flat out lie.
boogie's argument boils down to, "secondary polycythemia and polycythemia vera are treated the same, therefore no matter which one I actually have, I'm receiving cancer treatment and I get to say I probably have cancer."
