Makes perfect sense. Arranging a assassination is tricky and very hard to pull off without incriminating yourself. Much easier to bait someone else to do it and just let it happen.

These are the current rules of the game. The people crying that those exact same rules are now being used to screw them over were told when it happened to their enemies it would eventually happen to them.

You do not have to approve of or condone it to be able to recognise that it is a cruel irony being doled out to people who eminently deserve it. Perhaps a few years of that happening will remind people why the centre is a wonderful, calming space where we take the best of both, ignore the nutcases and try to talk things out in a constructive manner. But expecting the rules to change the instant the game starts going against you is the behaviour of children and adults do not get the leeway children do.

Social conservatives are the major segment of the support base and their issues keep them engaged. Who else do the Republicans have, country club guys who don't want all of their money stolen by the IRS? Are they going to attend rallies and knock doors? Parties can modulate their message, kick issues down the line, and simply fail to act on their platform, but they can't directly shit on their supporters and expect to win. This is also why Democrats have to embarrassingly platform political poison in the form of nogs calling for the liquidation of the huwhites to extract the gibs from their souls and Buffalo Bill trannies talking about how not only are they as good as real women in every respect (but mostly sexually), they are much better at football and rape than real women.

For him to hate all politicians from Bernie to Trump as the classmate said is quite convenient.
