At this moment, as things currently are I think Biden will be the nom simply because no one else wants it. They know Trump will come in like a raging bull. So do you see Newsom coming in to get stomped by Trump? Whitmer? No, Biden will be the candidate just because they have no one else willing to fall on his sword for the party.

They only have to duck long enough to get to the DNC convention. I don't know the specifics enough to speak on it, but as long as he's still the candidate at that time, they can avoid letting the plebs at the convention have an impromptu primary and rig the primary that absolutely should have occurred in whatever favor they want.

It doesn't solve "the Kamala problem" -- she HAS to be on the ticket, perhaps as the Presidential candidate but definitely at least as the Vice Presidential candidate, due to the way fundraising laws work -- but it would avoid having something like RFK Jr. or AOC being voted in as their nominee without permission.
