I think there is a cultural point that has made Styx's relationship much more difficult. Remember when Styx called his wife a bitch on stream?
The Dutch are known in Europe for being much more direct and blunt. To many people from other nations that comes across has rude and unfriendly. But in the Netherlands that is just a baseline.
Now you have American Styx in the Netherlands, who already seems to have issues socializing in the US as it is.
You have the whole bang-a-bunch-of-chicks-and-leave-them-in-the-dark drama. You also have his issues with alcoholism. Who knows if he has really stayed on the straight and narrow when it comes to drugs as he states on streams.
In any case, when Styx is fucking up, Elisabeth's family, friends and the people around him are not going to avoid the topic, or sugar coat the issues to spare Styx's feelings or embarrassment.
And when it comes to Elisabeth, you have an already culturally blunt and direct person pissed off with Styx. Who knows if she comes off as more "bitchy" than the average Dutch person. She already has one prior divorce under her belt, just like Styx.
I can understand why Styx would feel even more uncomfortable in that community. No one is going to give him a break or ease up on the gas.
It seems as if Styx wants to stay in the US. Elisabeth wants to stay in the Netherlands. And with their relationships on the rocks and Styx fucking other women, there is zero chance that Elisabeth will feel secure enough in their relationship to move to the US and lose her support network (that would be there for her when Styx goes on an alcoholic bender).
I don't know if there are other issues plaguing Elisabeth, but so long as Styx is personally incapable and unwilling to get a grip on his alcoholism and womanizing, there is absolutely no way that they can sustain a healthy relationship.
The only thing keeping what passes for a relationship going right now, is the fact that Styx has the financial means to support a wife and child that he doesn't live with on the side. Also Elisabeth probably knows that her daughter will do better with a father in the picture. But if it wasn't for Elisbeth's need for resources, Styx would be almost completely out of the picture outside of a visit a week or two a year.
He is Nick Reiketa light, with alcohol instead of cocaine being the substance of abuse.
Smart people have been observing that dating/marrying a female streamer is a bad bet. With all of these men fucking up, I am wondering if there are any positive examples of streaming men who can successfully manage a marriage. Pew Die Pie seems to be the only one that comes to mind. Or course he was also smart enough to walk away from streaming.
There are also many other streamers that focus on professional subjects, such as colonial cooking, science as part of their job, that stay focused on those subjects, don't allow drama to be part of their show, and tend to keep their personal lives out of their shows. Their shows are also not cult-of-personalities, and are not gimmicky. I guess they don't stand out as much because we don't see them constantly fucking up.
