Well no, because you can launch A2A from existing airbases at a pilot's discretion.

You will have a much easier time using the A2A because you're much more likely to have one in the air during the launch phase, the time where the rocket is more vulnerable.

Once it's on the terminal phases, you're fucked. Your only real hope is to knock their aim, because there's no interceptor on the planet that can outrun that shit. It's like trying to contain the nuke itself, just to block it. The kinetic energy of a reentry vehicle is so far beyond comprehension - you know, a 5.56 round going at that speed would have a similar energy to about a ton of TNT.

How, exactly, would you stop something that fast, hardened by heat and so hot that the radiation coming from the plasma on the front is enough to damage anything which comes close?

The only reason money was spent was because it was better to atleast try - it offers some protection.

I don't think you understand. One intercepted ICBM is still millions of lives, saved. It's the same as throwing chemotherapy at a kid who you're pretty sure is gonna die. You don't just say "Well, 99% chance he'll die" - you push for the extra 1%

But you will never reach 100% nor even come close.

Sprint was designed to get them in terminal phase. The last line of defense ABMs were loaded up with high-neutron-flux warheads that were supposed to "cook" the warheads of enemy ICBMs as they entered terminal phase causing them to "fizzle". Note that a "fizzle" could still be anything from "turns it into an enhanced dirty bomb" to "it 'only' detonates with like 2 or 3 kilotons of power". Couple with the fact that the Sprint missiles themselves were nuclear tipped and things would still have been awful. That said I'd rather have some defense than zero.

You hit it with these retard. Exoatmospheric Kill Vehicle. A bullet with thrusters. That are going just as fucking fast. Smarter people than you have though of and solved the problem.
because the liberals cannot imagine anyone of colour or part of the LGBTQP+ community not being super liberal
Blacks voted reliably republican pre 1960's. The misconception they have always been a democrat bloc is misinformed.

We got guided missiles instead of a unguided flying nuke. That and missiles just got far better.
The more sophisticated a guidance system is, the more weak it generally is to the EMP and radiation flux from a nuclear detonation.
We can always build thousands. That is a option.
Sure, but that requires Cold War levels of funding. You also need to build all these interceptors in Alaska and northern US. Even then, one voltage surge through the power lines and telecommunication cables is enough to wipe out the stock market and everyone’s 401k.

The math says no. The juice of a war with Russia just ain’t worth the squeeze. It’s not that our oligarchs care about your life. The issue is their investments are the most vulnerable in a nuclear war because Russia only needs to get one missile to the space over mainland America.

The “Grindr down in Milwaukee” thing is funny but probably not true. Downdetector relies on user reports which makes it easy to fake if you just get enough people on board. At any rate, the idea that a single modern cloud service would fail due to overuse in one city is highly unlikely. If there is a failure in a localized area, it’s going to be due to an infrastructure issue common to a local ISP and/or whatever CDN or cloud provider they are using, and you’d see other services failing too.
All the grindr usage is probably from fatrick tomlinson trying to release his rage

I was going to post this myself, but am just going to add to it so no one can give me a clock sticker.

Betting odds currently give Biden a 7.8% chance to win. Polling in Virginia, which by all historic metrics should lean blue, currently has them neck and neck with Trump having a slight lead.

If you are still riding with Biden are convinced he can't lose against a man accused of over 9000 felonies, you could be making a fucking killing.
If Trump holds a slight lead in Virginia, then Joe hasn't got a chance in hell in many of the swing states.

(barring any massive honkening of course)

What? Why the fuck not?
No, it wasn't a solved problem. There is a major difference between something which technically maybe could achieve it and the reality of actually stopping something moving at those kinds of speeds is not only a technical challenge, but a physical one. Their terminal speed is 7km/s. They can outrun pretty much everything.
Because anti-air nukes are only really useful against mass formations of bombers, something that's been passe since 1955.

The exception was the (yes, actually pretty successful) ABM system we developed. The tech behind which could be best designed as 'fucking gnarly'. Sprint got such speed in the lower atmosphere that its skin got hotter than the exhaust of its rocket motor. 'curving it a little' won't help you against systems like that. Countermeasures and decoys will. Until you hit serious atmosphere. The 'hard' counter to ABM was proliferating the number of warheads. It's like drone warfare: The countermeasure is more expensive than sending another payload, so the countermeasure cannot scale. The idea that the cost of the ABMs would go out of control, as well as causing an exponential spiral of offensive warhead count led to the ABM Treaty and the acceptance of MAD deterrence as a long term strategy.

At this point I'm wondering if the COVID story is just a ploy to sequester Biden's "doctor" so he can't be questioned by Republicans (or Democrats) for a while and give the Pro Joe faction time to get their footing.
This has been the best news week for the Republicans in decades lol
I half expect Iran to really rub in the Carter nostalgia with some hostage shenanigans or some shit before the election

Sprint was actually operational for a year before funding was slashed. But by all accounts, it did work.

Trump just said he WILL build it. It's happening. We have the tech, all we need is to build more.

There’s some things you need to beat like a wild animal growling at a baby. Cheering on political violence with your real name is one of those things. Especially if you are a fucking Highschool or middle school teacher.
Lest we forget that this woman was a middle school teacher who tried to recruit her students to join Antifa.

You can't reason with people like this. When they say 'By Any Means Necessary', they are dead serious about it.

Hell, it they actually start going through with it, I'd encourage Jews to breakdance in front of muslim shops and stores and walk through muslim neighborhoods yelling "YOU WILL NOT REPLACE US!" while holding those fucked up candelabras they like.
It's not random Muslim storeowners that Jewish students care about. As a Jew who is an alum of one of these institutions in the news for antisemitism, the concern is foreign students here on visas who support terrorist groups whose literal mission statement involves the killing of Jews and the hatred of America. I've never felt at risk by the Muslim guy who sells cigarettes at the cart on the street, but only by zealot PhD students who froth at the mouth if you say Israel should merely exist in some form and who will break university rules in pursuing that zealotry without consequence. These same people join in with Antifa at places like Berkeley and engage in violence. If they don't engage in violence, they provide comfort and support to those who do. Those students are not Muslim Americans, generally.

The universities have bent over backwards for literally the most minor of issues when it involves the whining of a black person, a Latino, a troon, etc. I wish I could powerlevel more specifically, because I look back to incidents I remember not even 10 years ago and am left shocked at the disparity in university reaction. But the administrators do nothing when Jews (or white people and Americans generally) are threatened with death or assaulted. A huge amount of this is from radicalized foreign students--not really Arabs on their own, but leftist Europeans, Pakistanis, Bangladeshis, East Africans, Indonesians, etc. Even woke Asians from Korea (never China or Japan, in my experience). The universities are unwilling to do anything to stop them. In many cases, administrators cover up or support them. So the only way to get rid of them is for the feds to take away their visas.

And the feds should--not because the foreign students hate Jews, but because they hate America while living here under the privilege of having a visa. In no other country can you be granted a privilege to immigrate, and abuse that privilege to advocate for the destruction of the country. It's literal societal suicide that has been going on far too long. If you're not down with the Jews or whatever, then don't think of this as a pro-Jewish policy. It's a policy of expelling foreigners who hate America from being allowed to engage in anti-American activities while given the privilege to learn and live here.

Jewish students don't even really want the feds to take away the visas of antisemitic students (although the feds should). They just want universities to punish a student waving a Houthi flag and dressed like a Hamas commando in the same way they punish a student waving a Gadsden flag and dressed like a Ku Klux Klan member. But that is not going to happen, so the feds have to take action. The way conservatives are seeing liberals talk about Comperatore's death and the assassination of Republicans right now is how Jews have felt about the mobs of anti-Israel and anti-America radicals on campuses for the last year. If the universities don't take action, the feds need to step up.

Again, no Muslim deliveryman ever made me feel unsafe. But the radical Pakistani here on a visa screaming into a bullhorn and pointing me out to their mob as I ignore their gathering to go to a film talk has. The cultists gathering outside student government meetings and using their social weight to force student council into secret, off-the-record talks about anti-Israel activism have. The administrators who are told face-to-face by a student that he wants to kill Jews on campus, but do nothing about it until the student himself leaks the recording of the conversation have. I've seen all of these happen in the past 10 years and I'm not dumb like my retarded ancestors in Germany who thought things would get better right up until they were forced into a cattle car.

I'd never go and try to offend some random Muslim guy trying to get by, but I would feel immense pleasure at seeing a PhD student from Belgium here for their 8th year of "research" who waves a Hamas flag most of the day and LARPs as Antifa get expelled from the country and added to a list.
