That's correct, the KPD was not planning on slaughtering a bunch of Germans for no reason, also the influence from Moscow just caused a lot of internal bickering over the 20s that helped paralyze the party between pro and anti-Stalinist factions. The Social Democrats famously did not get along with the Communists at all and their failure to actually work together was crucial in allowing the right wing coalition that put Hitler into power to form at all.

Hitler on the other hand, actually was planning to and then actually did kill tens of millions of Slavs, Jews, Gypsies and just about anybody else for essentially no good reason.
