If I may draw from personal experience, you absolutely do need some sort of reference material in order to create pieces of ANY kind, even if what I do is AI art.

I like to think that what I do is the complete absolute opposite of what Shadman draws. I do have some material to reference when thinking about the anatomy of large, well-fed women.

I draw and can confirm that most of the time people do use references, even if it's to get the colors right.

For this one I mainly used the reference to get his hairline, the bald spots, the wrinkles on his forehead and the bags under his eyes correctly. Mind you that you can still get away with drawing from memory or practice, but it's way easier to have references at hand to draw from. Specially if you are drawing people and not fictional characters. Something that Shadman in this case has done with underaged girls.
Edit: I have even seen others copying the colors from the image to the palette to use on the drawing.

The protect act of 2003 TECHNICALLY is on the books and prohibits drawings of that sort even if its basically never enforced, but given kiwi farms rep, it wouldn't shock me if several dozen loli archives remain on the web despite the law, but KF got fucked over it.

Yes, I am aware of federal law. there are carveouts for drawn pornography for legitimate critical and educational uses, which we exemplify. I am at will in how I choose to approach this. Federal attempts at criminalizing drawings have never been legally enforceable outside of certain contexts which we do not fit into. I remind you that his pornography is hosted in the United States and can be found on multiple extremely popular US-based websites. One in particular is even monetized by Stripe.

The issues with Lt Corbis / Logan is that censoring the image does destroy the information of it. The drawings of Logan are extremely brutal which is why it's notable. Censoring them deprives the viewer of the information of what exactly he chose to put this person through. With Keemstar's daughter it's enough to demonstrate that it exists and why it exists, which is the abuse and intimidation of Daniel Keem through his step-daughter.

This isn't up for discussion btw. I'll do whatever I feel best conveys the facts of the situation within the regulatory boundaries of the law and with as much consideration for the interests of the person as I can give without intruding on the other two facets.
