UK 'Major incident' after reports of stabbing and 'number of casualties' in Southport

Police have declared a "major incident" in Southport after reports of a stabbing and a "number of reported casualties".

Police said a knife had been seized and that a man had been detained but urged the public to avoid the area near Hart Street.

In a statement, Merseyside Police said: "We can confirm that emergency services are in Southport following a major incident this morning, Monday 29 July.

"At around 11.50am, we were called to a property on Hart Street to reports of a stabbing.

"There are a number of reported casualties and more details will be confirmed when possible.

"Armed police have detained a male and seized a knife. He has been taken to a police station.

"Please avoid the area while we deal with this incident. There is no wider threat to the public."

Oddly before 2005 it was at an all time high or at least the highest it's been in a long time, the swing is depressing and also very telling.

I know blaming Blair is easy (and justified) but non-crime hate incidents were where the police broke.

The guidance around them was and remains poor, they created a new version of almost crimes where the people who determined if it was worth recording or not were the individual officers, it created a situation where the law was twisted to treat people differently based off ethnicity, sex, sexual orientation etc. It also served to put the managerial class in direct opposition to their officers where the people on the beat would be expected to justify why an incident was or was not logged as a non-crime hate incident one, it put forces in opposition to one another depending on the degree to which they embraced their role handling thought crimes and because of the government at the time those who got promoted were those who went all in on that. Were I a better writer I could put together a thesis on it, I suspect somewhere in Spunt's thread there is one. But that shit really was the end to community policing and the slow regression of law enforcement to pre-Peel levels of uselessness.

Serious question for Bongfrends: where would you go if you were to leave the UK? Most burgers say "I plan to disappear into the hills and fight the autocrats", out of interest.

That’s a tough one. Husband and I have spoken about it but it would mean leaving our families, and not all of them are cunts. I can’t see myself abandoning my dad or my sibling, and he can’t abandon his nan or one sibling. To uproot entirely with a preteen too? I think it would be hard.

Ideally we want to find a quiet village in a cheaper area. Somewhere with a okay school and park that isn’t full of crack heads and glass. Maybe in the next few years some old/sick relatives can finally die so we can maybe get some inheritance to try and start our own lives. It sounds horrible saying it, but with everything fucked we would be lucky to get a mortgage before we are 35- and that’s with both of us working… both of us are at a total loss because we don’t seem to get far before something breaks and we have to dig into our savings.

I moan and grumble but I know we could be much worse. In comparison to our shitty council estate neighbours we are okay. Yes we have social housing, but we do both work! Our main concern is getting out so our child doesn’t turn into a delinquent.
