I watched the first five episodes of the Caped Crusader today. So far it's mostly decent. Some of the DEI stuff is funny -- apparently this world has solved racism but not sexism (there's a couple of remarks about Gordon saving Renee from being the office coffee girl... even though there are other female police officers that nobody seems to have a problem with). Every crowd is basically a gradient of white to dark brown.
Some of the character changes are weird and too over the top. Harley Quinn has little to do with any of her popular characterizations and is more of a mash up of Hugo Strange and Lock-Up. I did like her costume, at least. Likewise, Penguin is now a woman, a mother, a singer, and apparently at least somewhat attractive (Bullock seems to flirt with her). Why not just make original characters at that point?
Still, the villains they don't makeover are well done. I thought Catwoman was great (outside of randomly having a tamed jaguar out of nowhere), same with Clayface and Firefly. The scripts are well done and none of the episodes were actually bad or even boring. I do feel like they should've leaned more heavily into serialization. Right now this largely just feels like a more subdued, less fun version of the old Batman: the Animated Series with a worse voice cast and more generic animation. Or at the very least leaned more heavily into the noir aspects given that they have Ed Brubaker and Greg Rucka writing for the show.
