Tabletop Community Watch

Well... if this creature is trying to confuse us as to its biological sex, consider me bamboozled - can't tell if that's a lazy MTF or a woman who took testosterone to grow a neckbeard.

I'm impressed at the amount of people on that committee in general who go by their biological sex's pronouns and "they". If that's not proof that the idea you must be some sort of "queer" (as opposed to simply having a personality) is a social contagion in nerd communities, I don't know what is.

In a bit of funny news, the circular firing squad has found its way to Gencon this year. A heckin diverse and affirmative RPG awards show that was scheduled for the con decided to do a last-minute amendment of their rules to say that anyone they believe is a Zionist is banned: https://archive.is/mlNW8

When this came out, it was quickly brought to Gencon's attention, and they booted the award show, for "safety", is the claim that the award show people made. Now the dangerhair legions are brigading Gencon on twitter with claims that they're going to boycott the con.
Guess they forgot that GenCon's tied to the SFWA, which is filled with Jewish people. And pedophiles. Horrendous amounts of pedophiles.

Jeffro is weird as fuck on Twitter. He practically treats old school D&D like a religion, and he's a hardshell pastor of it. I honestly can't tell if it's a goof or not, but he sure seems sincere.
Jeffy is permanently salty that a petite redheaded girl did his bit better than he ever will.

The problem is that, as Grummz points out in this tweet, the rot has settled in throughout the industry, so even if WOTC completely collapses, things won't get better. The SJWs have infiltrated every level of the industry. They control the storefronts and the distribution sites, so they can censor any game that doesn't toe the line the same way that Nexus Mods removes any game mods that aren't DEI friendly. Thus, only the woke games get any retail support, ensuring that only woke slop will continue to get produced. Conventions are even worse. At this point, even if D&D goes the way of the Dodo, it will only mean that a new woke slop company will take their place.
Grooms is a scammer who doesn't produce his own games literally no one actually buys things at retail stores anymore they might go there to play but no one actually needs retail support.

Not sure if this is the right place for this.

"Uncle Adam", a wargaming YouTuber, is the latest to jump on culture war bullshit.

The TLDW is he was called a tourist on Twitter and is really mad about it. He says "hobby tourists" don't exist, and throws out all the usual buzzwords and shows stock footage of people in tinfoil hats when describing people who use the term.

The video currently has a 50/50 like to dislike ratio, and the comments are calling him out. He hasn't deleted any yet, and was even replying to detractors at first, but now he's burying them under a mountain of <3 pins.

I think he might have started deleting them, because I'm not seeing a lot of callout comments.

Either way, that's a disingenuous video. He knows damn well we complain about tourists for the same reason European towns are complaining about tourists: they show up from somewhere else, make a lot of noise, shit up the place, make demands, and then wander off when it doesn't interest them anymore, leaving the locals to pick up the trash. Fuck him and fuck the people he's defending. We should be calling them locusts instead.

Maybe. I had to scroll way down to get past all the pinned comments agreeing with him. Here's 5 screengrabs. Hobby Tourist 1.png

The "top" comments (ie. the pinned ones) have fewer likes.

To answer any questions, I've tried Essence20 and it's... Fine. It's simple enough for middle schoolers to understand, but complex enough for an adult with nostalgia to enjoy.

My sister and Brother in Law offered to let me try Lorcana... And I really like it.

Like, I've played MtG on and off for over 20 years, but I enjoyed Lorcana and I especially enjoyed the high quality of the Cards.

I think people sleep on Lorcana and it's far better thought out then you would think at first glance.

Well...

It was never in my feeds and I assumed it was being bought by collectors because Disney.
Ok that's totally fair. There's a real question of how much of it's sales is being driven by speculators vs those actually enjoying the game.

I actually was talking with a friend in the games industry (well, more adjacent to it). Some of the conversation posted below.

Ravensberger has no idea what they're doing
nation wide their supply of product was abysmal. They've never done a TCG before and severely underestimated demand
Stores that requested as many as 10 cases of booster boxes were lucky to get three booster boxes total
Then they turned around and said that stores that were participating in their organized play program would be getting preferential supply of product. Then they said the organized play program was closed 1 week later due to it being full.
Then the big box stores got their shipments, and if you weren't there waiting for the shelf to be stocked, you weren't getting any.
Local game stores decided they needed to "increase their prices to stay competitive", which was just a BS way of saying they weren't going to pass up the chance to be greedy. So LGS started charging 2-3x the MSRP for product
The 2nd release wave is just now launching, and Ravensberger tried to do a limited online sale...and they got their site taken down by the traffic for almost 8 hours until they just shut it all down
same story with local stores: Requested 10 cases. Lucky to get 1-3 boxes of boosters.

ME: wow. that literally sounds like when Magic first started - of course that was 30 years ago. You'd think someone would have learned...

They're German. They were warned and their reaction was "well, we do things differently in Europe", and proceeded to do it the "European way" and promptly crashed and burned
Yeah, some stuff came out that was...not good lol
mostly word of mouth from industry folks I talked to at GenCon

That's all a real shame.

I really like the game, myself. My sister, her husband, and myself played for a couple hours and we had lots of fun.

All three major game stores I go to have huge gatherings to play it weekly.

It really seems like Ravensburger is suffering from success.

It reminds me of keyforge which I enjoy with some friends.

I did pick up the co-op set where you fight Ursula the other day. Have y'all tried it yet?

We have not. Most we've got are starter decks and a trove each.

I'm gonna check a card shop after work if they have singles because I have this idea for Song/Item synchronization and when I ported the cart over too TCG Player, the sixty plus cards were only ten or so dollars, but the shipping total was ninety in forty plus boxes.

This is not the first time I've heard of this and Euro logistics being fucked up and dogass.

I recall the OSE giving a kickstarter update about how their Euro printer/supplier had fucked up delivery in multiple ways, and early-run OSE was hampered by the Europresses taking forever to put a container together to ship to the US distributor.
