The upper management of the police are incapable of organising a piss up in a brewry, we're not in danger of them trying to seize control. They're just not competent enough.

Don't forget we're about 10 years out from "direct entry inspectors" where people with zero policing knowledge or experience could apply for inspector roles. For those who do not know the ranks in the (frontline) police are

It's not inconceivable we now have some chief inspectors running police stations that have never done a day as a Constable or Sargeant. They just had some fancy qualifications on their CV and could pass the exam to get the job (Or were a good diversity hire).

They have loads of power and are responsible for a lot of the tactical response to these incidents. They also have the power to cancel leave, tell constables they aren't allowed to finish their shift and go home (happened to me once, was on for about 30 hours and it is illegal for police to sleep while on duty), to cancel retirements and resignations.

It was one of the stupidest ideas that government have come up with and was all about trying to break the culture of the police and get some DEI into the upper ranks because they couldn't do it though merit.

It also hacked off a lot of Sargeants who would be up for promotion but there was no vacancy anymore and a lot of Constables who are generally loyal to their Sargeant before anything else and now both had to answer to someone who doesn't have a clue what they're doing or what it's actually like out there. Driving low morale even lower.

Screw retirement you'll end up in jail which is basically a death sentence. It is illegal to refuse a lawful order. Given you need an inspector to let you go (give the order to stand down) at the end of your shift and they can instead lawfully order you to stay on duty, then walking out would get you arrested instead.

The only way it'd work is everyone walking out so no one would be there to arrest you, but even discussing action like a mass walk out, strike, or mass call in sick is also illegal.

If this gets bad enough there won't be any one to put them in jail. Things are getting worse and the police cannot handle even a basic interview any more. 1. Summary​

As at 31 March 2021, there were:

• 156,033 firearm certificates on issue, a 2% decrease
• 548,521 shotgun certificates on issue, a 3% decrease
• 565,929 people held a firearm and/or a shotgun certificate, a 3% decrease of 20,422 since last year

Gov statistics. I would imagine most of those own multiple firearms (rifles) and shotguns. So we can assume there is probably a 2 or 3 million guns mostly in white hands. We always talk about melee weapons but the UK isn't completely unarmed. They aren't in the cities and towns fighting but they're there if it continued to grow and it started to turn into a full race war where your skin picks your side and nothing else.
