The most likely outcome here is that the grandparents completed the drug recognition training, Nick stayed sober by testing and the grandparents moved into Nick's house. If the CPS process were over, Nick would have used different words.

I didn't think predicting they were working on a plea deal that involved deferred adjudication for a first time non-violent drug crime was that wild or unfounded. I try to make it clear it's opinion. you quoted a piece that start's with "I'm guessing."

I'm curious as to what has created this impression. I've always thought Nick would be offered deferred adjudication. Was it my opinion that Nick and Kayla were offered identical plea deals for the same crime and evidence? If I wasn't clear, hears what I think happened

1. Nick's attorney begins plea negotiations on behalf of Nick.
2. They reach an agreement for Nick last week (probably when Nick said his case was moving along nicely).
3. Prosecutor commits the deal in writing.
4. Prosecutor offers identical deal to Kayla. Kayla doesn't have atty so it has to be served.

I think that's infinitely more plausible than Kayla being offered a random plea agreement independent of Nick. I also don't think that Nick's revelation today about kids returning is independent of his crim case. It fits that his his atty, during plea negotiations with prosecutor overseeing both child and crim cases would resolve everything. That would be a logical objective for both defense and prosecution. What is wild or unfounded about that?

No. Nick said that there was no proof of exposure. Her hair was proved to have contained cocaine metabolites, but as Nick has said how that happened is a complete mystery to him. No witnesses came forward in court to testify that the daughter had been exposed to cocaine. There is no evidence of any sort to show that she was ever exposed.

Nick always tells the truth. Even when he is lying.

Again, I think what happened is they are conditionally giving the kids back. I do not think they want to keep the kids, and as long as Nick will agree to certain conditions, they're fine with it and they don't need or want a full adversarial process.
