It's a state that is geographically quite large and has a few densely-populated cities. So small counties for urban areas with lots of people vote Democrat and the hinterlands all vote Republican.

It's not like other states which are almost entirely blue or red.

A lot of pop musicians stop maturing in any meaningful way when they get famous because they don't ever go through any important life milestones after that. I've noticed a bunch of my favorite metal personalities still talk and emote like 24-year-olds despite being in their 50s or even 60s. It's embarrassing.

Kind of an interesting observation. I've posted in the past about how I work / perform in the music industry at the higher levels and plenty of times I've had to work with / perform with many "hair band" musicians from the 80s. I've been in the music industry for decades and really don't even notice much at this point because it's all just a blur and it's all work but I had one hang with a ton of once famous hair band musicians and bands and I asked my fiancee if she wanted to go with me to the party. She never says no to free food and alcohol so she came.

After the party on the way home I asked her what she thought and without even blinking she said, "All those guys look like they stopped buying clothes when they were at the peak of their career". It had never really occurred to me but she was right. I had just spent the night in a room of guys that were all in their 60s and 70s that were all wearing shit like snakeskin pants and leather vests. The majority all still either dyed their hair or were wearing obvious long haired wigs.

I had never noticed how unnatural it was to be talking to some guy who was like 70, wearing all skintight leather while he had a gut, with the blackest of jet black hair, telling me about every single chick he banged in the 80s.

And that was another thing - all they ever talk about to each other is all the chicks they banged in the weirdest of circumstances as if it's helping their case - "Yeah, once back in 1990 I was in a diner and this chick recognized me and I got a blowjob from her in the bathroom while her boyfriend was waiting at the table for their order. Curious about this too. The state has been solid blue in the Presidential elections since Carter, long before the influx of Somalians. You can maybe chalk up 76, 80, 84 to Mondale but it was the only state to go Dem in the 84 elections which is impressive.

The only unique factor I can quickly come up with is that the demographics are heavily Scandinavian and that somehow has bearing on how they vote.
