Russian Special Military Operation in the Ukraine - Mark IV: The Partitioning of Discussion

Ukies are bragging about being the first army to use the extremly controversial dog robots in a combat enviroment.

The most Russian video to come out of the war in a while.
Is that guy sitting across from the camera wearing soldier closer to the rear a Ukrainian POW? Everyone else is wearing what looks like EMR camo and 6b47s but this one guy has a lighter camo kind of like what Ukrainians use and is wearing a FAST-style helmet without hearing protection, which is something you see Ukrainians or foreign mercenaries/volunteers wearing every so often. Hard to tell for sure with the lighting.

Является ли РИА Новости пропагандой НАТО?

Во время "прямой линии" 17 апреля Владимир Путин подтвердил, что это были представители Российской армии.
To translate for you, Vladimir Putin admitted on national TV in Russia after Crimea was fully annexed that they were mostly Russian Army, this is an article from RIA Novosti, which is owned by the Russian government.

The AFU have been pounding Energodar for about two months, which is suffering from severe disruptions in electricity and water supply. The surrounding forest is burning every day. Probably one of Nuland's "surprises".
You know, if all the stuff said about Russia is true the Ukies would really be thinking twice against advancing against Russia. You know, because it was apparenttlyyyy Russia that blew the Zapo dam and it is now Russia who have set the plant on fire for whatever reason I'd think twice about the consequences of taking a military operation, and advancing in a war of attrition.. You know, because Ukraine have chosen to invade Russia.

While it is almost unbelievable that the Russian border was basically undefended. It is ultimately easier to fix and destroy an enemy attempting to move through open territory than blasting them out of the prepared positions in the Donbas. Not that I think it was a trap. My suspicion is that the Russians thought there wasn't a high threat that Ukraine would use the rest of their reserves on a bonzai charge toward Kursk.
I don't get what this move is supposed to achive. Just embarressing Russia isn't worth a bill payed in blood. There's a point right, someone way smarter than me must see how digging improvised positions across a border is better than relieving a colasping front in your own claimed territory.

Maybe hoping Russia will divert resources which will slow down the main Russian advance, drawing things out longer so it doesn't look bad for the current US administration in an election year. 🤔🤔

Those things are controversial? Why?
Last I checked the technology isn't really there. It's effectively a drone that has restricted visibility and slow movement. In theory it's harder to spot as it can hide in the grass, but I don't know how realistic that is. I don't know what the battery life is and how they keep them from dying in the field.

So what should we make if anything of the Ukie advance into Kursk I'm assuming it's an absolute nothing burger?

Depends what they do with it. If they manage to hold it but nothing else, its a massive blow to Russian pride and forces Russia to redistribute forces that could otherwise be used offensively. If they manage to hold it, but other fronts start to crumble, then the Ukes are retarded. If they manage to keep pressing deeper, without losing other fronts to Russia, then its a damning indicator for the Russian military. If the salient collapses, then the Ukes are retarded.

So far as I can tell, nobody in Russian command seriously believed this was going to be an actual attack, for whatever fucking reason - whether they didn't see the buildup, didn't believe it was real, or didn't believe they'd actually do anything with it is irrelevant. My best guess is in line with the reports that Russians were demining the area - they probably assumed that the buildup was defensively against the offensive they were about to open there, and didn't really expect to get preemptively attacked with numbers like these. It will be a few weeks before we have a good idea where it sits overall - Tenative indicators are that the Salient is being pushed back in some places, and that Russia has started advancing again on other fronts, but its impossible to tell with any confidence whether that is an effort to take advantage of Ukrainian redeployments, or to try and take pressure off the Salient.

So far, my assumption that this was more of a desperate tide turner seems to be holding true, but that's based on a lot of spotty information.
