I think part of it is an attempt to shame people (especially men) for liking woman who aren't like them. Why else do these people whine about having more really fat, ugly and/or covered-up women in media? Or why something that appeals to men is considered problematic.
They think lesbians have low standards or something when it comes to dating. They unconsciously fall into the stereotype of "all lesbians are ugly short-haired fat/muscular women who dress like dudes".
My guess is that making him a white rapper is cultural appropriation, so the fandom, not understanding irony, all just decided he was black so they could enjoy their long-ass comic in PC Peace.
They also seem to always make him a transman, so it's equally possible that he's the character they unload all of their social justice on. Most rabid fandoms have a character like this; for example, Fluttershy is always a Muslim transwoman.
Speaking of Homestuck, Puzzlestuck was just released recently, and for a fan game it's put together surprisingly well and the art was pretty good...except...
...yeaaaaah. I'm not really sure what it is about the Alpha kids (Jane/Jake/Dirk/Roxy) that REALLY attracts the SJW art crowd. Like, before Homestuck got to be as old as it was, the original four were still drawn relatively normally but I don't think I've ever seen the Alphas drawn without some bullshit trans/POC/gay headcanon stereotype.

This also always turns out to be the character the non SJW parts of the fandom seems to find the most attractive, since Fluttershy has also been the moe anime girl with huge tits. There's also been a thing in the fandom to portray the Striders as sex bombs, which went as far as some people saying they'd be bisexual so they're "accessible to everyone" Seems like the most popular character is always the one crazies of all kinds latch on to, which is to be expected.
The thing with Homestuck is that one day the fans went whining to the author and in an act of complete exasperation he told the fandoms that the Human characters were 'aracial' and that they could interpret shit as they liked
... Until he revealed everybody's ethnicities in the short-lived 'Trickster Mode' section.

Human AU Trolls were given all sorts of races and nationalities and it was absolute shit.
Some I could see, the one whose last name was Zahhak being Iranian or whatever, and solely on the basis of his name, but in general it was very 'one-of-each', very token-y. Another case of 'none of them are white, straight or cis!! look how inventive, progressive and original I am!'
And I see this happen in other fanbases, too. Especially those with non-human characters (Undertale and Steven Universe, of course) so they can mold them into their very own self-inserts in their original Human AUs.
And then there's just general race-bending where it doesn't make any sense at all. Like Hetalia (where the characters are literally personnified countries) where an example I can think of is France and Italy who were drawn as arab men because 'there are more muslim immigrants in those countries so it's only normal that they wouldn't be white!'
It wasn't surprising that the 'artist' wasn't European herself, either.

I see this happen with the Disney movies as well. People freak the fuck out if you draw Mickey Mouse as white or something, and they turn red-fured foxes or cats into men with vitigilio just to get that sweet "oppression points" and be all "lol just because they have red fur doesn't mean they're white!!!!". I can maybe see their logic behind say, humanizing The Lion King or the Jungle Book characters as white, but they come off as really stupid when they apply this to say more "american/western/white" settings like lady and the tramp or the Aristocats or something.

I don't get SJWs. They complain when artists draw african/asian characters "white". Okay, I see that's valid. But they also throw a hissy fit when you draw canonical europeans (ya know, where whites come from?) white as well, and they start with the bs of "weeellll the country has loads of POC immigrants so it's "natural" to draw them that way since the population isn't white!" (never the less that in these places the immigrants won't overtake the majority of the white population, it's nuts- it's like when they complain for the Japanese to feature non-asian immigrants in anime when they form the 1% of the population).

OH JESUS NO. The les Mis fandom has always been a pond for stupidity but ever since tumblr hit them they've gotten worse. They just won't stop applying the story to American sensibilities and to fit into all the tumblr hit points (Enjolras is asexual, everybody's gay/poly/trans/POC and they all care about black lives matter and blah blah blah). I remember I found once a post that said something like "Eponine is much better imagined as a mexican gay trans girl than a simple old white girl".
Never mind the fuck that she's french instead of SJW's ideal of the american white, she's poor, she's insane, and she's abused. But that's not good enough i suppose...I swear that post gave me cancer. she's too good for this shit.
I kinda miss the days where the only drama found was the Marius and Eponine shippers/Eppieboppers and the fangirls lusting over the Amis and ignoring the rest of the story.
