Yeah, and my simple point is 'they' certainly did, but 'they' being 'the right' or that 'the left' managed to 'take control' of mass media is both false and laughable.

The same people/types of people were still both the ones making the media and the ones in government regulating it over the long decades. The last big 'changing of the guard' so to speak was in, what, the late 60's-mid 70's? And shit still rolled on, staying the course in the meantime even if the names changed.

There's a century-long arc of history that, the more I think on it the more questions arise. But the notion that the common people or their politics ever were much more impactful on the landscape of the culture, much less governance, than they are right now being false is the one thing that only gets more obvious. That's a step backwards in understanding how we got here, of that I'm certain.
