I particularly like this sentence- not only did he feel the need to triple repeat a 'woman', because clearly one time is not enough (tripling clearly makes it happen lmao, betllejuice), but you can only compare something to something else, if that first thing is different. So it is suggested, that Imane is different enough from a woman-woman-woman for the comparison to make sense.

Peer pressure is real. Someone I know hated a television show while it was airing, mostly because of the name and the commercials looked stupid. A lot of people in their life were big fans of the show. Years go by with their friends talking about the show, so one day this person decided to just watch the pilot; after all, their friends are people they respect who like other shows this person liked. Maybe they're on to something. They loved it and binged the whole series.
I would imagine that everyone reading this thread either has a similar story, or know more than one person with a similar story.
If people you like and respect all start saying "hey I think you might be trans/autistic/mentally ill/a vegetarian/not college material/too fat/whatever" eventually that person is going to start having doubts about themselves, then they'll start believing those people, because they trust them.
That's what we mean when we say it's a social contagion and/or grooming. Convincing other people to doubt their feelings about their self-identity.
