Boomers are only now approaching 80 (which is still a long life). The Silent gen is everyone 80+, and for some reason they're full of salt and vinegar (too young to fight in ww2 but ultimately benefited from the years of prosperity that followed). They probably hate the fact that they're old more than the Boomers.

Never interrupt your enemy while they're making a mistake. Letting Harris 'speak' with little pushback lets people see her as the mess she is and denies easy flack to throw back at Trump.

Anyone can be the brains the face is the one selling the message and in Trump's case taking the bullets to said face. She was chosen over other more qualified people on numerous policy issues because she was fucking the boss. No easy way for Bill to replace her.
