While it would be a bad look for Trump to win unopposed, there's nothing requiring it in the constitution. In the event one candidate dropped out, the EC would vote like normal. That's the actual event that constitutionally elects a president, and there's little doubt in my mind that even if the Dems didn't field an opponent, some of those votes would go to Kamala anyway.

Kamala dropping out would just cause a much higher EC count for Trump than if she didn't. It isn't exactly rocket science how this works when one candidate leaves.

Like I understand the Constitution doesn't legally prohibit it, but it would be a crisis in the sense half the country wouldn't think we had a legitimate President.
