You know how the basics of business involves attracting new customers and maintaining old one? I think Phil slept through those classes.

At the heart of it, Phil has given up on generating new customers. The format Phil wants to force on viewers is not going to attract anyone who isn't a time traveler from the mid 00's. Time Travelers are a very busy demographic. No one who knows how a YouTube can be unironically (or whatever you call our interest in him) entertaining is going to watch DSP when there's any number of others who cater to their preferences.

A lot of his crying this month seems to be because he wants to retain and recover lost customers, hence him reminding us of all the tens of thousands of hours of unedited raw gameplay footage, and crying over the context of things he said, when non-viewers understood the context without also giving him pennies for the view.

That he lost these customers/viewers due to shitty, uninspired product and miraculously bad customer service is probably another class he slept on. And probably actual job training he completely disregarded, because every shitty retail, service, food, and hospitality job hammers that home before they let you spend too much time interacting with customers.

The way I see it, Phil goes about his whole "business" backwards-he wants to somehow create demand for his over-abundant supply of awful streams/clickbait reviews rather than fill an existing niche. I get that marketers for luxury or expensive goods can sometimes pull it off but that just doesn't transfer over to LPs.

People also want a let's play to be, well, entertaining right off the bat-"Phil gets good once you get used to him" or "listen to this 15 minute rant/life story, it'll totally convince you" isn't going to convince anyone as long as there's so many other streamers out there who require less investment.

What worked for Henry Ford, mass production, must work for Phil as well. You know he just doesn't know how to run Google, but many other business as well, e.g. Ford, WB or State Street.

Phil's on twitch again today, and it's over 40 minutes since he started and he still hasn't booted up a game. Chat is actually quite upset (and bans are flying).

Phil's "testing out a commercial" (yea, "testing", phil....) which means he's going to subject whoever actually came to watch him play games to commercials. Haha... According to chat it's the 5-6th ad since he started 40 minutes ago, which is hilarious. Phil also apparently can't tell when ads are done running on his own stream. This is gonna be a good day. (God bless adblock)

edit: I just realized now that he is on twitch we can very, very easily clip/oddshot stupid shit he does. This is brilliant.

Autists making free emotes for Phil:

Also some are getting triggered by this:

Those look like shit. Does this toolbox think anyone is going to pay for those?

Didn't he swear he wasn't going to play ff15 in a tantrum because they delayed it and messed up his schedule?

As if his word has any meaning.

Seriously, if someone isn't already making it, I would love to see a video with all his whinging, lies, and petulant indignation towards Twitch that he had on full display in those e-begging videos juxtaposed with him being back on Twitch.

So, streaming is just fan-service for Phil..... but he'll throw his toys out of the cot when not enough people turn up to watch. Then he returns to twitch, which has the not-so subtle implication that he's actually quite interested in streaming to people. OK, so it's not just fan-service? He actually wants it for himself. He sees streaming as worthwhile.

But then he goes on to insist that he won't "lower himself" to becoming a "personality-based" streamer with chat interaction, donation thank yous, facecam, etc. No attempt at building a community at all. Going the 'pure/no sellout' route is fine, but it's not going to work. Not in 2016. Barring a few exceptions here and there, if you want your twitch stream to be paying your bills, you'll need to adhere to the aforementioned market demands. People just aren't going to show up otherwise.

It looks like Phil has (finally) realised that being a top dog on twitch is very lucrative, and now he wants a piece of the pie. But he's not going to work for it. He'll refuse to change for the market. He'll continue with his 3 hour streams while other streamers are putting in 8-12+ hours. He'll keep streaming at times comfortable for him while other streamers do everything they can to get their name and face out there. He'll keep not using facecam/interacting with chat while other streamers practice (and get better and better at) the juggling act of gameplay/commentary/charisma/viewer interaction. He'll keep banning people for mocking him while other streamers use banter/controversy as a way of attracting and retaining viewership.

The reasoning behind Phil's utter refusal to adapt his technology/'new media'-based "business" to current, ever-changing standards will be a mystery for the ages. It can't be something as simple as him just being an even bigger bull-headed manchild than we originally thought - there has to be something else going on here.

I dropped into his chat last night and it is really odd, he doesn't talk to the chat at all. That is like the best part of Twitch being recognized by the streamer and feeling appreciated. Even a simple "hey what's up VIEWERNAME?". People were donating and subbin during the stream and he didn't shout out anyone.

Is there any reason for Phil's obsession with streaming in 60FPS? Its a running thing with him, I've noticed, he's left money on the table because of it, and it sounds like the most esoteric thing to fret about while playing vidya.

I mean, I guess its important now, so those truant 30 frames are apparently helping pay his mortgage but still...

Short answer: :autism:

Longer answer: It's been one of the few things he can reliably advertise for his channel, plus he seems to still be under the delusion that streaming at 60FPS makes his content magically better than everyone else's.
