I call this passive aggressive positivity. I'm sure there's a better term about this. It's when people weaponize the general emotion or concept of positivity to deflect criticism or gaslight the person as negative. It's a common tactic used on social media, typically from women.

There's a video game that explores this tactic: We Happy Few. It takes place in a dystopian English town where the state can detect if somebody is "unhappy" and the "happy citizens" revolt against the unhappy. They use pills (or spells I believe) to brainwash its citizens to have "joy." Somebody could probably explain that video game better than me.

In "We Happy Few," the reason that the people of Wellington Wells make and take Joy (the hallucinogenic drug you mention) is because they're trying to collectively forget they gave the Germans in WWII all of their children 13 and under in exchange for not being invaded. Just something to think about with all this talk of joy and abortion.

We work more indirectly, we let our Client states pretend they're independent, but NATO is effectively America's bitch. We force "culture" down their throats. If you really want to stretch the definition, then America is a multi-national Empire kept together by the force of arms, just ask Dixie.

There's nothing wrong with it, Empire is not a term with any inherent moral value, it's what we get for being the sole superpower and de facto world hegemon. We're just not a people with a culture or a government that's suited for it, it more or less happened by default after the Euros bled themselves white in two World Wars. And now none of them can project power, only America can. Funny that.

This is something I wondered about, Kennedy has so much LA cache it will ruin him and his wife in Hollywood by endorsing Trump. Even though his wife's never going to get a real role after Curb Your Enthusiasm, she wants to be part of that club. This is where we see which way, well off wealthy man? Endorse Trump to stick to your supposed beliefs or cuck to your wife who just wants to be invited to parties?
