Some people are just predisposed to see Phil as a platonic ideal of an american, hard working, struggling, getting by and not seeing the truth. That Phil is a platonic ideal of an american, compulsive liar, alcoholic, short sighted, dumb, non curious of the world around him, a narc and all that and more is combined with an holier than thou attitude towards everything. When he spilt a glass of water on himself he blamed the water of choosing to spill, when he spillt a bottle of water he blamed the bottle for being over filled. He pathologically cannot accpet personally responsibility over any negative action ever
