Honestly the Vulpine Labs bit really cracks me up. Because think about it, even IF they were somehow able to genetically modify humans in this way, especially living ones and not their unborn cellular offspring, which is already pretty damn infeasible, how come they immediately think that a radiation-proof space-adapted posthuman would have morphological freedom to look like an anthro fox? The whole thing about adapting a body to extreme environments would very quickly whittle down what morphological freedom one would have - would the body of an anthro fox be suited for an entirely aquatic lifestyle? Of course not. In the process of making a body that has these adaptations you end up changing their appearance anyway, it's not just "Human but with tardigrade powers" like some kind of marvel comic, the tardigrade-ification will have implications for their appearance and even the very shape and size of their bodies because all of that factors into ones adaptation to an environment.

Reading this stuff, the general vibe I get is: seems like both serious research and serious delusion. Like, Genetic Storage solutions are a thing, custom protein synthesis and genomic editing are real, protein folding prediction is a hard subject and very important; the jargon doesn't seem to be outrageously unscientific etc. I'm not in Bio so I would only know more than surface level stuff.

Most of the magical thinking seems to be around the feasibility of, say, determining the genetic edits required to achieve a particular phenotypical alteration in a multicellular organism. Splicing glowie genes into a monkey or some such experiment (which is stuff that has been accomplished) is comparatively simpler than actually making a khajiit or something like it (that didn't immediately melt into a cancer blob).

Even if you had a comprehensive system that could predict how a zygote would develop over time from a given set of genes, the process of reversing it would itself be likely computationally unfeasible.

I don't particularly mind that if, in their quest for furries in real life, they end up actually moving the field forward though.

I think one of the biggest areas this falls apart is how infeasible it would be to swap out various organs and body parts in an adult human by just messing with their genes probably via retrovirus. You don't just flip some genes and voila your ears are now fox ears, you would need a whole biological process that allows the body to perform that metamorphosis and that's simply beyond anything that geneticists could attempt.

Even then, the anatomical problems of having typical animal ears on a human skull are pretty well documented at this point. You would have to remodel the skull and in doing so you have a lot less space to fit the brain. Humans have ears like they do because it works. Anthro foxes are constructs of human fantasies and imaginations and therefore have not been tried and proven in the real world. If this guy ever somehow pulls any of this shit off and he won't but just in a hypothetical where he does, he is going to get reality checked so hard.

I bet this guy thinks that if you put a big pair of bird wings on your back that you would be able to fly. Never mind that we don't have hollow bones to lighten our weight at the cost of fracture weakness or even a body with the proper aerodynamics to take flight very effectively.
