Sony hate thread

I can't tell if Sony is this far in the shitter or I'm just fucking old.

All these games come out and I'm always just confused and scratching my head cause I don't hear shit about them until they seemingly release and either flop or have a controversy.
I hadn't heard of Concord before it came out, either, which is unusual if it had really been in development for the past 8 years. Though if it was made by the Destiny guys, I'm sure I wouldn't have paid attention.

The Playstation 5 and related accessories are getting another price raise in Japan (for the third time iirc), which will take effect in September 2nd

・PS5:66,980 円 → 79,980円
・PS5 Digital Edition:59,980円 → 72,980円
・DualSense Wireless Controller:9,480円 → 11,480円
・PlayStation VR2:74,980円 → 89,980円

Xbox hardly exists as a console at this point
Hasn't since the 360 days, really. Even back then 9 out of 10 people had a PS2/PS3 here, i can count on one hand how often i played on the 360. Never gained much traction in my country it seems. I still fight any nigga on how the 360 pad has the best stick placement, left analog over d-pad, feels so much more natural to me going up-down than down-up with my thumb when using the d-pad in games. Shame that the d-pad was so shit.

Xbox won the 360 generation though, it took until after the gen was finished and Microsoft has stopped counting sales for the PS3 to ‘surpass’ it by a small margin

I'm riding this console generation out on sheer spite before I commit to finally just hopping to PC.
Going back to full PC Master Race shortly before the PS5 launched still remains the best choice in my entire gaming "career". That 3060ti will last me basically forever, most likely much longer than this console generation, which was the original timeframe i wanted it to last for.
You must give them your money, you bigot.

That thing looks like a cleaned-up Phil/ADF. Down's syndrome eyes and all.

Japanese Twitter is becoming wild, the two top entries on the trending chart are PS5値上げ (PS5 price increase) with ゲーミングPC (gaming PC) right below it.

PC is better than a PS5.png

HAHAHA HOLY SHIT!

WE ARE DYINGU, SAVE GRORIOUS NIPON COMPANY DESUUUUU!

But you don't make games for us anymore, we rather play the switch and PC

YOU ARE DISONOROBRUUUUUUUU!!!

Good luck with that "global market"

But fuck Sony for killing Days Gone 2 because the first sold 'only' 8 million copies. Or rather, because it was secretly based.
I think gaming is in for a bad time, the modern strategy is proving unsustainable. Days Gone is an early example being being $81 mil in budget, and selling 8 million copies.

cancelled, probably because Spider-Man 2 didn't meet sales expectations
Spider-man is an example of how insane it's all getting, with a budget in the hundreds of millions ($270 million according to IGN). It would need to be an insane best seller to even make a decent amount of money. The assumption seems to be that the more money pumped in, the more money comes out, not acknowledging that there are only so many players, paying $70 or less, there's a point of diminishing returns. It feels like the mentality of executives that don't even understand videogames, and how people buy them.
600 peak concurrent player count lol
Concord is the ultimate fear, 8 years in the making and allegedly hundreds of millions spent, all to make back relatively nothing. Millions pissed away making a game no one will remember.

I'm not surprised prices are raising on the PS5, these companies made the most amount of money they'll make during covid, and now they're back chasing that high. Same situation with Game Pass, they saw complete market saturation, and now they can only make more by raising prices. There are not enough gamers. The AAA games industry is screwed if it keeps chasing big budgets. If Concord isn't already the shot heard around the world, there will a flop so huge that the games industry will come down with it.

Given the current year, there's no way they would greenlight Days Gone unless they changed the main character.
I really wish they made a sequel, we need more Sam Witwer kino.

Nigger-Man 2 put Sony almost HALF A BILLION DOLLARS in the hole because they had to sell 7,000,000 units just to start turning a profit. For a game, by their own admission, people may not even be able to tell is any better visually than Spider-Man 1.

It's crazy to think it wasn't *that* long ago that a game selling 1 million copies made it a mega success, and now we are at a point where games need to sell 5 to 7 million just to break even.

Did GTA V's massive success just mind fuck every executive into straight retardation? That can't be it, right? TLOU 1 came out roughly the same time and was one of those 100 million budget games, right?

I think GTA V does bear a bit of responsibility for this mindset, the game had a budget of $265 million (5 mil less than spider man) making back $8 billion. The game was a phenomenon, huge scope, huge budget, massive time investment, and it paid off. Even all these years later it's still just as popular, it's a "forever game". Every publisher wants a forever game, like GTAV, or Skyrim, or Minecraft. The problem is the strategy of forever game is just massive budget game with no understanding of replayability. That's why we see Last of Us 1, Last of Us 1 Remastered, Last of Us 1 Remaster 2, because Sony's idea is to make a big budget single player game, and then keep forcing it into peoples libraries.

HALF A BILLION DOLLARS
Those budgets are absolutely retarded, especially if you consider that in many cases half of it is just spent on marketing. Not every game can and will be a GTA V-style success, Sony seems to not understand this very simple fact.

It absolutely did.
