my first instinct is "no, because his parents will always back down." but dave is SUCH a malignant narcissist and so unused to having to respect his parents' boundaries that i can't rule it out. for example, i think it's very plausible that dave would lose his shit and break a no-contact order in a fit of narc rage.

at the risk of sounding overdramatic, dave strikes me as exactly the type to commit violence against his elderly parents. yes, we know he's a feeble butterball, but i feel like i often read news stories where some troubled failure-to-launch adult son does something gruesome to his aging parents because they forbade him use of their car or wouldn't give him money he wanted. you see it with scions of the rich (like dave) and with poorer families as well. dave fits the profile because his sense of grievance and entitlement is so absolute.

i could certainly see him shoving his mom and her hitting her head or something. his folks are still relatively young and able but i think especially in years to come they'll need to take precautions. dave is only going to become more desperate, lonely, embittered, angry, delusional etc

Dave's parents don't have much of anything to do with or any say in it at this point, it is an action being undertaken by the prosecutor as criminal acts. Once a prosecutor decides to undertake a prosecution, it becomes a state action. His parents could say "we changed our mind" or "please don't prosecute Dave" and it is likely the prosecutor couldn't care less. A prosecutor has the job of keeping the public safe from criminals, not listening to people who are wishy-washy about their retarded spawn.

you're forgetting that dr joe soprano-muscato controls the crooked lawfare system. jokes aside, i was thinking of sentencing, not the prosecution itself. at least in the parts of the usa i've lived, if a wealthy doctor who's respected in the community tells a judge "let my son off easy" in a case like this, the judge would be inclined to listen. the good-ol-boy network is real.
