Just my quick 2 cents, I'd argue that this is due to naturally addictive personalities. Pot may not be neurologically addictive, but it certainly can be psychologically, and that is the true pitfall when it comes to addictive behaviors being built around an obsession.

As for Trump's stance on pot, it is the most normal thing possible, and I would argue the most American in the institution recognizing it's effectively harmless, and thus government should only curb public annoyances in the least invasive way.

Not to mention that that would actually chill free speech more than Citizens United, because the only groups that could overcome onerous government regulations on speech from associations would be massive groups like corporations.

Do corporations have a lot of undue influence on politics? Yes, absolutely, and it is a problem.

Adding to the derail with Captain planet was a gay ass show that steamrolled over more mature and story driven programming's time slots because Ted Turner got ass blasted about realistic violence being depicted and simped for the clintons by greenlighting shows on his network only to cancel them like a good boy to cripple them and fuck over creators and their rights to air elsewhere. When Captain Planet debut, all TBS played was Loony Toons, Flintstones, and Tom and Jerry reruns. The only "mature" shit TBS aired was the G-Force cut of Gatchaman and even THAT only ran five episodes before being taken off the air in 1987.

Hell, Swat katz, Dexters Lab, and Two Stupid Dogs didn't debut until after Captain Planet ended. And a case can be made they only even existed because Captain Planet turned a profit to justify TBS investing into more original programming.

However, as someone that does happen to have children the pressure and feeling of "not being ready" was very real and pushed on me by everyone. Even my own parents. Hindsight being 20/20 I know for 100% fact I could have had kids earlier then I did at 30 and I would have survived. One of the things I wish I did as part of the coulda, shoulda, woulda files.

I feel like it's more a matter of the person using it but it does seem to have some properties that affect certain folk in a harmful way. I know it can trigger certain disorders like schizophrenia to emerge and make it worse. But the stereotypical burnout stoner types I know, some of them were already the slow kids who ate glue when we were in school, so I don't think it was the weed I think they just drew the IQ short straw at birth.
It's not some cornerstone of my personality and I don't feel like it's some perfect drug, but I don't see why it is viewed as some horrible thing while so much of the population is on some form of anxiety med or antidepressant. The way I view it, I'm an adult with a steady job and money to support myself who understands the "risks" of it, so it's a small vice I choose to engage in. I like how it makes my body feel more than the headiness, but it definitely makes rewatching old TV more enjoyable.

I don't know how to get through to people about this. The only way to "be ready" to raise kids is to make up your mind you are going to do the best with what you have, and do it.

You make mistakes and you fumble around a lot panicking when you first start anything new and important. There is no special "state of readiness" that can be achieved with just a little more time, money, education, "social support," or whatever, that will allow you to skip the humbling failure that comes with learning something worthwhile.

You will correct course with your second and subsequent kids on some things. This isn't a horrible injustice against your first kid, it's just life. Your parents and grandparents and cavemen forefathers had the same experience. Your kids are less likely to actually fucking die due to your lapse in perfection than your ancestors were. You have a lot more of a soft place to land, backup nets, hail mary options than previous generations had.

Every single good parent in the world was an immature moron at some point. They became good parents by rolling up their sleeves and giving it a good honest try, not by waiting until a mystical state of "readiness" gnosis was achieved.

If you want to get good at an instrument, you're going to fumble slowly through "Three Blind Mice" and hit some awful wrong notes. You begin at the beginning, have discipline and determination, and proceed. There is no way around this.
